THE REMEDIALS STILL IN THE GAME WITH “STRIKE THREE”

Vancouver, BC - The Remedials have hit a homerun with “Strike Three” their third studio album. “Strike Three” is the follow up to The Remedials 2007 release “Drop Outta School” an album which received outstanding reviews. The Remedials recorded “Strike Three” at renowned studio The Hive in Burnaby, BC with Jesse Gander, who has recorded The Subhumans, Bison B.C. and 3 Inches Of Blood. Jesse Gander crafted “Strike Three” into a powerful album with incredible production value, drawing from years of experience and over 300 albums recorded. Combine catchy songs The Remedials are known for “Strike Three” has the music and lyrics that stay with you long after the album’s last song has faded out.

The Remedials “Strike Three” marks the debut recording with new bass player Dan Gillis. The Remedials energy and style of fun old-school punk rock hasn’t changed on their third album. The inclusion of a new member allowed The Remedials to try new things on “Strike Three” and progress musically as a band. Lyrically “Strike Three” comprises a variety of subjects from girls, comic books, drinking and the paranormal. About The Remedials

The Remedials are a three-piece punk band from Vancouver, BC formed in 2004. The band consists of Gabe Gill (Guitar/Vocals), Lionel Cloutier (Drums/Vocals) and Dan Gillis (Bass/Vocals).

Combining down stroke guitar, hard-hitting drums and catchy bass lines, The Remedials music is best described as “Fun Old School Punk Rock”. Add a kinetic live show and The Remedials have made a name for themselves in Vancouver's punk rock community.

The Remedials always wanna hear what anyone has to say about their music especially in print since they are press whores! The Remedials think you should pick up one or two of their CDs or even two or three of the same one because they say so! But as LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow would say “Of course, you don't have to take ‘my’ word for it.”

No frills, dopey & drunk street punk. Sounds like it crept out of the same boozecan as B.C punks of yore A.K.O.B. and The Spores. This release is from 2007 but the Remedials are belting ‘em down & out now in 2009! Remedial frontman Gabe told me that Mongrel Zine is like Vancouver’s MAXIMUMROCKNROLL. I beg to differ, but for the sake of argument: if that is the case, then they are Vancouver’s Flipside. Being no stranger to crusty boozecans in the past, I liked it! My favorite track was “Succubus”. (Bob Scott)

the remedials play a brand of punk rock that pops and sticks.their album"songs for the a.d.d. generation"is full of songs that happen in everyday life from getting crabs on the song coviently titled"crabs"to your occasional creepy stalker on"remote view"to absolutley ridiculous songs like"cyborg"about a grandmother that gets her parts changed all the time to become the ultimate cyborg, the song"the binge tour"boasts and reeks alcoholism and the vocal arrangement on this one sounds more like the lead singer of jughead's revenge.a great pop-punk record for fans of it's title"songs for the a.d.d. generation".best songs in my opinion would have to be"remote view","marilyn monroe" and last but not least"train hoppin"how punk rock is that?,VERY!

another pop-punk classic waiting to happen by canadian's the remedials,i don't know why they aren't already signed to the same label's as the queers or screeching weasel by now cause they sure as fuck should be,i'm hearing some nofx influence on this album especially on songs like"close enough for a punk rock band"and then very fast as fuck songs like"bloody snot"similiar to screeching weasel's song"i don't give a fuck about nicaragua"and just about any jughead's revenge song,"date rape"sounds more like a g.g.allin song then a remedials original.i'm appauled by that song cause rape is obviously wrong and i cannot stand music that pushes it.i mean come on guys what about the victims here?,that was totally out of what i am used to with them,maybe they needed a little shock value to show people they just don't write about break-up's.i like that the music was fast but it was hard to concentrate on because of the lyrics being so very appauling and shocking to hear.so maybe that's the reason they're not signed to the queers labels or screeching weasel cause they push the envelope with things but so did the queers and screeching weasel but not the way g.g. and the remedials did.mostly another amazing album done by punkster's the remedials except that song"date rape"

Thank you to Punk Rock Beth for reviewing both of The Remedials studio releases! They cannot disagree with her comments at all in regards to certain song featured as there is clearly no redeeming quality for it whatsoever. They have no excuses and will totally admit that song crossed way too many lines to even count and subsequently will never, ever, ever be played by The Remedials ever again! Hey, even the guy who wrote the song isn’t even in the band anymore if that’s any consolation! Probably not so much. Needless to say that song went over like a lead balloon with the judges at Shindig as well. But, The Remedials have grown up and moved on and everyone should look forward to their next album in 2009 which will feature a more kinder and gentler Remedials…

The Remedials Report Card By Denis Maile

Hey kids! Check out the latest Report Card from Denis Maile appearing in The Skinny Magazine Issue 25 Vol 2, just in case you didn't get a chance to pick up the issue in print. But we all know you did because everyone does cause it's a rad mag!

Uptown Riot w/ Fuzzcat & The Remedials @ Pat’s Pub

On the first Friday of every month Pat’s Pub hosts a ska tinged show called Hellcats And Bulldogs. I decided it was high time I checked out what all the fuss was about, not to mention I was looking forward to checking out some Hellcats. Can’t say I care much for Bulldogs though.

Without a ska bone in their body, The Remedials opened the show. It was nice to see that the skahead running the night doesn’t discriminate against booking the straight up punk bands, practicing what they preach. Unity. And unity is what it was. The show going punks united with the miserable old people playing keno to enjoy The Remedials. It was possible that they were actually united in beer drinking, but the old folk didn’t run for the door when the music started up, so they either approved of The Remedials, or they really loved the Keno.

The Remedials are now in full swing with newish bassist Dan Gillis and he has even conformed to the tight-pants wide-stance that The Remedials (along with many other punk bands) are known for. The trade-up vocals are coming together nicely with Dan singing the harder songs, and Gabe the not so harder ones. At one point Gabe sang; “I want to live in a haunted house” which led me to believe that he doesn’t value sleep. This may be true because they took off after their set to go and headline the bill at Pub 340. A short trip down Hastings, why not? Maybe after Pat’s I’d see if I could catch the end of it.

Next Fuzzcat hit the stage and this was what I assumed the night was going to be more like. They were four regular looking dudes, playing a tight brand of upbeat groovy ska, and having a lot of fun in the process. How could you stand still? How could you not be smiling? If you were old and playing Keno, that’s how. Fuzzcat had some great chanting back up vocals that filled the room nicely, and spurred more than a few sporadic dance pits in random corners of the bar. They ended on a great rendition of the Dead Kennedy’s ‘Holiday in Cambodia,’ that had the Fuzzcat sound stamped all over it.

Then UPTOwN RiOT took the stage, and sounded exactly what you’d think a band called Uptown Riot should sound like. This was solid drinking partying music that made me crave summer and a backyard BBQ, especially during their punk rock anthem, ‘Drinking Song.’ You couldn’t help but find the bottom of your beer bottle really fast while these guys ripped it up. Uptown Riot had the tendency to break out into some really cool ska parts that shone through during their already badass punk rock sound. It was kind of crusty, kind of dirty and the vocals had that pack a day, living in the gutter kind of rasp to them. Vocalist/Guitarist Paymon’s sunglasses only had one lense, but I’m sure it was so he could keep one eye on the crowd. They got rowdy from the first note of the first song, and kept up the pace alongside the band the whole way through. If punk were built on a foundation of three things, it’d be fast, rowdy and drunk. Uptown Riot scored big points in all of these categories and I would highly recommend catching one of their shows even if you’re slow, well behaved and not drunk.

Then after they kicked us out of the bar we traveled by foot down Hastings to Pube 340 and caught the last three notes of The Remedials’ second set of the night. Then we proceeded to drink until they kicked us out of that bar as well.

THE REMEDIALS ARE REBELS WITH A CAUSE

Surrey, B.C. - The Remedials will be playing a benefit show to support F.A.C.T. (Families Against Crime & Trauma) at Epic Autosport, 12134 86th Avenue Surrey, BC on Sunday May 3rd 2009. FA.C.T. is an organization to provide a voice for those affected by a violent crime and for those who have lost a loved one to a criminal act. The F.A.C.T. Benefit Show starts at 1pm and will include a Car Show and Free BBQ.

F.A.C.T. Mission Statement:
- To provide a voice for those affected by a violent crime, or the loss of a loved one to a criminal act.
- To create change in the Criminal Justice System.
- To provide guidance and direction pertaining to court procedures.
- To educate the community and victims about their rights.

A "3 Strikes Rule" should be enacted to remand into permanent custody anyone convicted of repeated counts of violence against society, without the possibility of parole. This is just one of the many laws that need to be revisited.

Our mission is to create change in the Criminal Justice System, to provide guidance and direction pertaining to court procedures, and to educate the community and victims about their rights. Our Justice system is broken. In fact, there is no justice in the CJS; it's become a legal system. Legalities and judicial procedure have become the focus, rather than Justice. We aim to put pressure on the Federal government to revise the Criminal Code sections dealing with the sentencing of anyone charged with violent offenses.

Hey kids! The Remedials have played a bunch of shows and house parties over the years and as fun as they all were (and they were all really, really fun!), they were just so they could get some scratch together to record an album! As well as get really drunk on free booze, play for a bunch of people and party! This is all fine and dandy, but the shows The Remedials really want to play and that were the most fulfilling were benefit shows such as V.P.A.F. Vol. 1 and 2!

The Remedials are always down for playing shows that support causes that they believe in (or one’s they don’t for that matter) even though they don’t get paid! Kinda similar to the first year or so they played except they didn’t play for any causes except to just play. Aside from the V.P.A.F. shows (props again to Cam and Steve) The Remedials will be playing a few more benefit/charity-like shows in the future!

Firstly, is a charity show for F.A.C.T. (and FREE BBQ! Hey kids! The Remedials Just Played Two Shows In One Night! This may not really be a big deal to other bands that have done that or are on tour, but for The Remedials everything’s a big deal! So there! The Remedials would like to thank a bunch of people who made this happen, which they will eventually…

Let’s start with Pat’s Pub located just beside The Patricia Hotel. This was the first time The Remedials have played this venue in Vancouver! Surprising since let’s just say The Remedials have played a bunch of different venues in that town! Arriving early enough to set up gear and receive two playing cards from the door girl Chelsea, which can be given to the bartender in exchange for a PITCHER OF BEER! Lionel and Gabe decided to deal some meal and tossed one of the cards ala Gambit to Dan before making their way to the door. Gabe mentions to Lionel that they should buy a deck of cards, to which Chelsea says “Hey, I heard that!” Instead of grabbing pizza at The Balmoral after strolling through Crack Town they detoured into Gas Town to grab a doniar at World Wrap. In actuality this was quite a trek for The Remedials but the end result was well worth it and the pizza didn’t look all that good. On the way back they skipped the Hastings route and wandered by the No. 5 and briefly stopped to think if they had enough time jump in for a bit… Arriving back The Remedials grabbed the second pitcher of beer and hung out with Bev. Davies, Dan from Co-Op Radio 201.7 FM, Malcolm and Ariella before jumping on stage for the first time that night! Blasting though 16 songs in 30 minutes and having Stu from the POGs jump on stage to sing “Superstitious”, the night couldn’t have started any better except for the van incident… Gear and drum set get broken down and set aside and Lionel realizes that he really only needs just one cymbal stand for shows. The other one was damaged by Dan when he jumped through the drum set (Yes Boys And Girls, He Jumped Through The Drum Set) during the “Last Mansion” bash and yeah there is footage of it and yeah he’s done it more than twice! The Remedials had enough time for another few drinks and got to check out a bit of Fuzzcat who threw down a funky dope groove, they’re great check em’ out! Before leaving they ran into Dave who’s now playing drums for UPTOwN RiOT. The Remedials played a bunch of shows with him when he was in Cobweb Society and a couple with The Haz Bins, including their infamous Bowen Island show with Raised By Apes which Dave doesn’t even remember and is probably a good thing. The Remedials remember the show but things got a little fuzzy for them once Raised By Apes busted out the moonshine. Props to DK and Pete for their help hauling The Remedials gear into to the van! Once done, The Remedials said their “see ya laters” and it was off to Pub 340 rolling down Hastings Street and then hanging a right on Cambie Street and then another right into the side alley.

The Remedials haven’t played one of their favourite Vancouver venues Pub 340 in a really long time! Pub 340 was The Remedials CBGBs for a while and they basically helped pay for most of the recording of the “Drop Outta School” album. So when they were asked to play even though they were already playing a show that night and were given like less than a weeks notice they still made it happen! The Remedials arrived on the scene during the last The New Black song (they’ll see them soon or play another show together) and unloaded gear to the side of the stage. Dan and Gabe booked back to Gas Town so Dan could grab a doniar at World Wrap, an establishment The Remedials visited twice that evening! Coincidence or psychic phenomenon? You decide. Or probably just cause their doniars are incredible. The Remedials grabbed another FREE pitcher of beer while checking out Aging Youth Gang. And ya know what. Aging Youth Gang are amazing! That’s all you really need to know about them, well that and go see them when they play next. Throwing down a Pointed Sticks cover and not one but two Misfits covers We Are 138 and Hybrid Moments (a song The Remedials wanted to cover but now there’s no point after hearing A.Y.G. play it, cause they could never play it that well). Once the stage was ready and the drum set put together again (and Lionel got to use someone else’s newer and nicer cymbals due to a gear mix-up) and Dan and Gabe switched sides for the second show of the night. The Remedials were warmed up, drunk and stoked to play again! The Remedials ended up playing 17 songs with the encore! After breaking everything down once again The Remedials grabbed a bunch of beers and hung out with Jay and Dan from Coop Radio, Kristi of The New Black and Nick of China Creeps. Thank you to the girl who bought two CDs and gave up $20! When Gabe said the CDs are free and that he couldn’t take that much money from her she refused to take it back, therefore Gabe transformed that $20 into a few more beers! At the end of the night Lionel was able to get loaded, Gabe still had his voice and Dan was given enough free shots to stun a rhinoceros! The Remedials are happy to have pulled it off and survived the night and are totally looking forward to their next two shows in one night! “All In All One Of The Greatest Friday Nights For The Remedials!”

Thank you to Mykel from Vancouver BandCab and Kill Matilda who transported all The Remedials gear from Gabe’s Crib to Pat’s Pub then from Pat’s Pub to Pub 340 then back to Gabe’s Crib. They hope your van didn’t get too damaged on the concrete fence… They think the bumper will need some bodywork and everything else can maybe be covered with paint? I guess that’s what happens when ya roll with The Remedials? If you need to get your gear places talk to this guy, unless The Remedials are playing that night cause they’ll need it!

The Remedials Vs. Minnie Musique

Never before has punk rock sounded brighter. Deviating from my usual musical tastes, I decided to see the band in concert, after having given their last album “Drop Outta School” a good listen. I had been struck by how synchronous they sounded, as if there were strength and friendship concealed beneath their boyish charm.

The band consisting of Gabriel Gill, Lionel Cloutier and Dan Gillis have pounded the floor with their infectious choruses, like the songs ‘Marilyn Monroe‘ and ‘Claire Is Clairvoyant’. Surely many of these lyrics were written tongue in cheek, with an innocence that could veer towards Pop, infused with a good dose of three-chord punk rock.

They formed in 2004 by their former bass player Punk Rock Wayne. They started playing the reemerging Vancouver punk scene to a small, appreciative and eclectic audience. I lost myself to some of the simple guitar work making the melody an easy listen. Gabriel performed the singing and before Dan stepped onto the scene, Wayne was there to round off some fun tunes.

Gabe’s voice is only matched by his outstanding stage presence, putting the lyrics into a punchy context. Gabriel sings with an energetic but steady pace, never reaching the unbearable screeching some bands ascribe to.

The Remedials were an entertaining concert experience, with Lionel losing himself to the drums, Gabriel pushing the max and Dan playing some excellent chords.

Gabriel and I had hit if off immediately at The Cobalt in Vancouver BC, Canada. I didn’t even notice the sleaze there that night, by jumping frantically to this sound. As I had a primarily electronic music background, I thought this band would be an excellent deviation to improve my writing skills, and diversify my electronic music tastes. I can appreciate a good solid rhythm and a catchy melody and The Remedials had struck a chord that night.

Gabriel invited me to go to the Bon’s Off Broadway restaurant, having promised me the best breakfast in town! Intrigued by the idea of talking with Gabe during the daylight, and perhaps being able to dig through their flavorful ideas for my article. I was also lead by the enticing smell of bacon.

I made sure I made this trip at the beginning of their launch of their new song ‘Test Tube Baby’, and anticipating their new album to be recorded and released sometime this year, I wanted to catch the lead singer before The Remedials got too big for Vancouver, and I happily succumbed to the idea of a good breakfast, if he would promise me some time to interview him.

The coffee was late, as it was an extremely busy greasy spoon, but after a red eye flight, it was the perfect start to the day, the red in my eyes eased, once the coffee had arrived. Gabriel and me fell into energetic conversation right away, and his infectious personality allowed for frantically fun conversation.

Minnie: What was the idea behind The Remedials?
Initially, it was just to play shows! Playing shows at first was the primary goal and then eventually to record. In the beginning, that’s all it was! Now all I want to do is to continue to write music that I dig and play shows to record more albums. So things really haven’t changed much over the years.

Minnie: What feelings are you trying to convey through your music to your audience?
The feeling I want to convey with the music is just to keep things simple, fun and upbeat! Since the lyrics are funny and rather witty, if I can make someone laugh, jump up and down and have a good time then I have achieved what I wanted to. I really just want people to have fun and be happy! That’s it! Straight up!

Minnie: Who are your influences?
My influences for this band are The Misfits, The Ramones (of course), Hanson Brothers/NOmeansno, The Queers, Screeching Weasel/The Riverdales/The Mopes and NOFX, more recently Teenage Bottlerocket/The Lillingtons, The Muffs and Leftover Crack/Choking Victim. We mainly have our roots in punk rock and metal, although we listen to all kinds of stuff.

Minnie: Who writes the material?
When I write songs I usually do both the music and the lyrics. Our first album “Songs For The A.D.D. Generation” was recorded in 2005. I worked on about 80% of the material on our first album with Wayne writing the rest of the album. On our second album “Drop Outta School” which was recorded in 2007, I would say I contributed to about 60% of that album. Wayne and Lionel wrote the rest of the songs. It always amazes me when I bring a song to the table where it ends up after everyone puts their spin on it!

Minnie: Was production difficult?
Both our albums were recorded at The Hive Studios in Burnaby, BC. I was totally stoked to work with the uber-engineer, Jesse Gander (d.b.s., Operation Makeout and Plus Perfect) and he was my first and only choice to record with. He’s fun to work with and has a great ear for music and all his suggestions usually make it on the album. Jesse recorded, mixed and mastered both our albums in two days, which I think is pretty phenomenal! It was such a streamlined process, and for about $600 dollars for each album, the money was well spent and a great deal. I have heard most albums take about a week minimally to anywhere from a month or longer to complete! I love being able to complete the process so quickly. In and out! Done!

Minnie: Any plans to change your musical direction in the future?
In terms of our future direction, I know for me, I just want to continue playing in a punk band. For me it’s the easiest to play, it’s easy to record and it’s fun to do, I’m a big fan of quick and easy. As far as musical direction I really dig what we do and what I write so that’s not gonna change. We have more people in the band writing songs that will take the music in other places I didn’t expect and in slightly different directions but still within what The Remedials are all about. If we had more money and studio time that would be nice to maybe throw in some lead guitar or keyboard to accent parts. We’d always still play punk rock though with a bit more production value, this way we can take our time in the production process and complete our albums not as quickly. That’s probably why our albums sound the way they do, is that we just make the most of what we’re dealt with which is fine with me. I think we really do squeeze blood from a stone in the way we roll!

Minnie: What are your plans for the band?
We are currently working on our next album and we have a new bass player, Dan Gillis aka Jerry Demon from the POGs. Right now I am just writing some new material and so is both Lionel and Dan and it’s pretty amazing what we’ve come up with. We are shooting for recording sometimes in October or November and we’re all absolutely excited about this album and totally eager to record it! We might be able to record a demo in May of three or four songs before heading back to The Hive for another full album.

Minnie: How do you find it playing in Vancouver?
Vancouver has an amazing punk scene, which you can probably call a community, it’s really cool to be acknowledged and respected, and I find this scene so exhilarating since there are so many great bands in this town. For example, we have participated in two V.P.A.F. compilation albums and there is some great talent on there, 25 bands on Vol. 1 and about 28 bands on Vol. 2! For the longest time we couldn’t book a gig to save our lives now we have to sometimes turn some down, it boggles my mind how far we’ve come as a band! It really, really does!

Minnie: Who is your hero? Who would you like to meet?
Well, it’s not a musician! The person I have always wanted to meet is Jackie Chan. Ever since I was a kid as far as martial art flicks it was always Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan who were the masters. Then eventually Sho Kosugi and Chuck Norris. I think he’s an amazingly funny guy who can kick the crap out of anybody and can hang off the side of a moving bus with an umbrella! That’s one guy who doesn’t write a cheque with his mouth that his body can’t cash! His movies are phenomenal as well, have ya seen Police Story 1&2? I talked to someone who actually met him and apparently he is a really cool guy, which is reassuring, because usually you don’t want to meet your heroes in case they are total jerks. The dude still can’t speak English very well or sing at all but I’d never tell him that cause I would never want to have to throw down with him!

Minnie: I have noticed you have a slightly supernatural bent to your music? Can you explain what motivates you to write about this?
I listened to a lot of Art Bell on Coast To Coast AM on the radio when I used to work night shift, and still do with George Noory, which inspired me. I have always been drawn to the paranormal, the occult and the extraterrestrial even as a kid! There’s so much to sing about with that subject matter which I think make for great songs. With ‘Claire is Clairvoyant’, it was actually about an ex girlfriend who was psychic, ‘Abduction’ getting taken by aliens and ‘Succubus’ was about sleeping with a ghost, the last two haven’t happened to me yet though. I basically just write stories about experiences with the paranormal and supernatural. I think I have portrayed the situations in a clever way, and that the paranormal can be totally funny sometimes! Well, I guess the kind of music I write is “Paranormal Punk Rock”! I just write music for myself and don’t really care what other people think about it, but it’s always kinda neat when people come up to you after a show and dig what you do or a song that I wrote! My standard response when people say “You guys are great/amazing/awesome!” is always “Really?!” Cause I really don’t know, it’s just what we do now!

The Remedials Get An A+

Hey kids! With the aftermath that was VPAF Vol. 2 Benefit Show and while the smoke has cleared but ears are still ringing! The Remedials have a ton of props and thank you's they gotta start handing out all because of this show! So with out further ado…

Dan Gillis aka Jerry Demon of the POGs first show with The Remedials resulted in him getting a chipped tooth and ya know what, it’ll only go downhill from there… he still has 206 bones that can still be broken! With the approval of the crowd and more importantly our punk bros. Raised By Apes, Dan’s first show with The Remedials was outta control and couldn’t have gone any better! And now with the first show in the can and Dan’s cherry finally popped The Remedials can now focus on playing more shows to pay for a new record! For those of you who were at the VPAF Vol. 2 Benefit Show you got to hear a brand new song “Test Tube Baby” for the second time if you were at The Bourbon show or the first time if you didn’t but either way it’s the first time it’s been played with Dan, so to keep things from getting confusing let’s just go with the first time. Chipped tooth and Loose Tooth was playing, coincidence or psychic phenomenon? You decide…

Stu from the POGs joined The Remedials on stage for vocal duties on “Superstitious” in which Lionel and Gabe reminisced of the shows of old when the POGs would jump on stage and sing along, which was a great help to The Remedials who at the time would constantly forget the lyrics! Now one of them is in the band, so they don’t forget the lyrics as much as before.

Thanks to Cameron and Steve from VPAF for throwing a rad party! And with the night being an enormous success for VPAF everyone’s looking forward to the Vol. 2 release sometime this year or even maybe in the next few months! Props to the couple that pulled up in a cab jumped out during the interview to get in on the action the jumped back in the cab and took off, Gabe was too slow to give the dude in the passenger seat a CD. Gabe would like to thank the girl who kissed him in front of her boyfriend while they walked by the interview, the girl got a CD and Gabe cop’d a feel.

The Remedials Recruit

Hey kids! Haven’t you ever wanted to be apart of something bigger than yourself? Belong to a community? Band together with cool people? In other words join a gang? Well, The Remedials have never been that cool to join a gang probably cause they just didn’t wanna get clipped while walking to the liquor store. And since they were probably all picked last in gym class too they ain’t out running nobody, kinda like that dude in “Boys N The Hood” but even worse since that guy played football! So what’s a Remedial to do but plot an elaborate revenge scheme as seen in any horror movie of today? They would if they could but that’s just too much effort… Although a Goalie Mask and a Machete can easily be thrown together. So all they could do was wait in the corner of the room till their day came around and now it seems it has finally arrived again!

After The Remedials submitted a song to VPAF Compilation CD Vol. 1 back in 2007 and having it accepted to appear on the CD! And to have played the Vol. 1 CD Release at the legendary Cobalt which in itself was a historic show and compilation CD release for Vancouver’s punk rock community! You’d think The Remedials could just retire after that, if only, if only… But after an extended vacation they have returned to VPAF planning to release Vol. 2! After submitting another song to VPAF, having it accepted and receiving an invite to play the Vol. 2 Benefit Show, it seems everything was going The Remedials way as they are finally a “Made” band in gangland! The Remedials have finally gotten some “Cred” and a place in a historic score in Vancouver. But just like “Children’s Story” by Slick Rick things just never go how you planned them, especially if you pull a gun on an undercover cop…

Sometimes you have to leave a gang member behind who doesn’t got your back. He nods off while he should be keepin’ six or does all your drugs or bitch slaps the wrong ho! If you think of The Remedials like a gang and one member isn’t pulling his weight or making his payments to the boss they usually get body parts broken or shot in the face a few times. Since The Remedials are not a gang and don’t condone that type of activity, although they would all agree some people deserve a few “Knee Lifts”. And since The Remedials have no idea how to get some “Knuckle Dusters” they had to politely ask that person to step up to the plate and start earning again! Unfortunately, this mystery member was unable to continue earning for the “Organization” even when given the B&E route of old folk’s homes and like who can’t take down grandpa for a 10 count? A sit down of the “Bosses” (not the Underbosses, Captains or Soldiers) was required in order to determine their options and a course of action. Gang members aren’t a dime a dozen probably because once they get killed they’re dead, if the rival gang takes some shooting lessons and tags the right guy... Nobody wants to recruit out of the “Organization” because who can you really trust these days? Do you really wanna have to bring a bunch of potential “Narcs” to check out your operation? You guys in “The Mob” know what we‘re talking about, and they’re like “Hell yeah, tell it like it is brother!” So after reviewing a long list of one name it was decided to approach this person to join the club. But how would this play out since they were already in another gang! Luckily, these two gangs have worked together on a few scores and work out of different towns far away from each other as not to impede on their earnings. This would allow this member to be in two gangs at the same time kinda like a “Double Agent” but without the cool spy gear. And as an added bonus he can wear whichever colours he wants instead of just blue or just red all the time. After sending a few encrypted emails from net cafés at different locations a date and a location for an initiation was determined. This mystery location was known only as “The Mansion” and when the time was right the parties arrived in their tricked out rides. After the face-to-face took place it was determined this person had the “Skills To Pay The Bills”. And so the moral of the story is that Dan Gillis aka Jerry Demon aka Fat Jdan of the POGs is also a Remedial!

So check out the VPAF Vol. 2 Benefit Show this Friday February 27th at The Cobalt where The Remedials will be playing with a new member! Will they totally suck and fall on their faces? Maybe? Regardless, this will be a truly historic show for The Remedials and there’s only one way to see how things turn out! You guessed it, go to the show and support your local punk band!

Punk rock still thrives… at least at the Cobalt.

The Cobalt Hotel (917 Main St.) is hosting a fundraiser on Friday for VPAF Vol. 2. The show starts at 9pm.

VPAF Vol. 2 is a compilation of contemporary Vancouver punk bands such as The Remedials. The album follows in a long line of punk compilation albums beginning with Vancouver Complication from 1979.

VPAF Vol. 1 was released in 2007 and featured 25 bands, including Mr. Plow, Alcoholic White Trash and Aging Youth Gang. The new one has 28 bands, and among them are Bison B.C., The Rebel Spell and The Jolts.

The Remedials Are Booking

Hey kids! Promoters! Booking Agents! So wanna book The Remedials?! Cause you know The Remedials will make the party! Well, here’s a couple of things you should know before booking them to play a live show. Now that you have been warned, don’t say they didn’t tell ya! Ya got that!

1) The Remedials are a punk rock band and all that that implies! Meaning they have some rather suggestive material in their music and have been known to use course language quite frequently, actually constantly. If you want The Remedials to play a +19 show then no problem, a birthday party for your 13-year-old kid not so much… (although that kid would end up being the most popular kid in school if The Remedials played that party)

2) The Remedials have three band members and they all kinda sing too! Since The Remedials don’t have their own P.A. system, the venue will have supply one and a sound technician as well (you really don’t want The Remedials playing around with technical music equipment and electricity) and they’ll need three microphones and stands.

3) The Remedials have their own drum set, guitar head and patch cords! What they don’t have is a guitar cab and bass rig, if one or the whole back end can be provided by the venue “awesome” if not please inform The Remedials of the other bands on the bill so they can contact them in regards to sharing gear. In doing so this can bring a real sense of community and camaraderie between bands unless The Remedials damage their gear. But that has never ever happened, ever…

4) The Remedials can only play Friday and Saturday shows for now unfortunately, if that changes they’ll let you know! If that doesn’t gel with a date you had in mind for The Remedials to play, please take that up with their bass player. Oh yeah, the dude’s pretty big and we’re pretty sure he was in the Army too, so ah good luck with that!

5) The Remedials play well with others! And they’ll play with almost any band of any musical style at any venue too. They’ve had to unload gear in alleys filled with needle landmines, had to dodge syringes like Indiana Jones when they were thrown at them, deal with zombie junkies and played in venues where they’re more cockroaches than people! Just so you know they’re not a bunch of pussies!

THE REMEDIALS SUPPORT LOCAL COMPILATION CD WITH BENEFIT SHOW

Vancouver, B.C. - The Remedials continue to support VPAF with the Vol. 2 Compilation CD Benefit Show at The Cobalt, located at 917 Main Street on Friday February 27th 2009. The Remedials have previously included a song and played the VPAF Vol. 1 CD Release Show. Tickets for the VPAF Vol. 2 Benefit Show are available at the door and doors open at 9pm.

VPAF Vol. 1 Compilation CD was put together in the summer of 2007 with 25 bands from around Vancouver by Cameron aka Billy Clorox of the band Creeping Hand. With a “Do It Yourself” attitude and the support of many local bands such as Mr. Plow, Alcoholic White Trash and Aging Youth Gang including tracks on the CD, VPAF Vol. 1 was released in October of 2007. The VPAF Compilation CDs are reminiscent of the legendary 1979 Vancouver Complication in capturing the local bands that played around that specific time period. Cameron the mastermind behind VPAF says “There will be a piece of the Van punk scene saved forever for future generations”. VPAF Vol. 1 received great reviews by various publications and gained airplay on multiple college radio stations. The CD is also available in both record stores and skate shops around Vancouver. With the success of Vol.1 allowed VPAF to release Vol. 2 this year with 28 local bands including Bison b.c., The Rebel Spell and The Jolts. There will be a VPAF Vol. 2 CD Release Show later this year once the compilation CD has been completed.

The Remedials Report Card By Ronatron

Hey kids! Well, it took awhile to finally receive this Report Card but it was well worth the wait. The Remedials thought it might have been lost in the mail or thrown in the recycling bin with the rest of the unpaid bills… But, that was not to be the case and once the Report Card was posted the good and/or bad Remedials held their breath and trembled as they read their performance review. Hey, at least there were a lot of pictures though just as The Remedials like it! Yay pictures!

Here’s what Mr. Ronatron had to say about The Remedials:

The Remedials at The Cobalt
No matter how old you get, and no matter how old you think you are, there will always be a first for everything. Some could be great experiences, like your first concert, or some could be horrible, like your first relationship (depending on how you look at it…). That was my exact thought when The Remedials asked me to come out to The Cobalt to watch them play. I’ve never been to The Cobalt before and for those of you who don’t know, The Cobalt is one of Vancouver’s premiere underground venues. And when I say underground, I don’t mean folk music. It’s mainly hardcore-punk and metal. The closest I’ve ever come to punk was the Van’s Warped Tour back in the 90’s, so it’s been a while, but in retrospect, I did have a good time at those summer festivals.
First things first, I did enjoy myself and I don’t know why I was so nervous in the first place. I guess it’s safe to say that this experience was like my first kiss, sloppy but very pleasing. I got there a little early and got a chance to talk to some of the guys in the band, who were both very nice and gracious. We had a normal conversation about music, friends, and the whole works. Afterwards, when Alex finished editing all the pictures, he realized he knew the band. Turns out they all went to the same high school back in the day. Small world isn’t it! As a matter of fact, from what Alex recalls all of them played in several different bands.
In 2004, Gabriel Gill (Guitar/Vocals), Wayne Degerness (Bass/Vocals) and Lionel Cloutier (Drums/Vocals) decided to form a three-piece punk band called The Remedials. Their dedication to their work spawned two studio albums, two live albums, a DVD, songs on several punk compilations, along with radio and podcast airplay. All of these accomplishments weren’t unnoticed by others as they now have a solid following and fan base.
As soon as they started there set, I couldn’t help but notice how loud their music was. Like I said before, it’s been a while since I’ve been to a punk show so I had to adjust my ears so they wouldn’t bleed (They might have cranked up the volume meter to 11…and for those of you who don’t know, that was a Spinal Tap reference). Along with the heavy sounds, they also had the punk rock mentality with the power stance and fast paced head banging. They sound an awfully lot like Rancid, NOFX, and The Ramones, three of my all time favourite punk bands, so it was no surprise that they were all about the music. There were absolutely no breaks in between songs, except for a few beer swigs (and when I say a few, I mean a lot), and the bass lines were not only melodic, but very technical. All three of them laid their voices down on different songs, so it created a nice balance that kept each track interesting.
Their loud, punk-rock attitude transcended onto an eclectic crowd. There were aging punk rockers, young hipsters, as well as some pretty girls at the show, so I guess music has no boundaries when it comes to defining what punk rock is. However, a punk show wouldn’t be a punk show without a mosh pit. Even though it was a small venue, it didn’t stop three courageous (drunken…) men from kicking and flailing their arms to the sounds pumping throughout the speakers. At one point, one of these inebriated young chaps fell over. It goes without saying he was a little pissed, but I, however, found it quite amusing and quickly jotted it down in my notepad. I don’t know what it is about our society, but people seem to always laugh at other’s misfortunes, take America’s Funniest Home Videos for example. There is always at least one video of someone nutting themselves, and you don’t know why, but the laughter is just too overwhelming and eventually tears start forming. OK I may have gotten a little sidetracked, so we shall get back to the music.
Most of their songs have quite a bit of profanity, something my mother would have disliked but something my teenage self would have admired. One song caught my attention above all others. It wasn’t the catchy bass line, it wasn’t the hard hitting snare drum, nor was it the fast paced power chords. It was the lyrics. It was all about drinking and it goes a little something like this, “I like to drink/ I like to f*ck/ I like to f*ckin’ drink.” It’s simple, but effective. I think they just captured what everyone loves into one simple song. They ended the night on a short but sweet note with their song “12345.” They essentially just counted to five and then thanked the crowd for coming out. What surprised me at the end was that they not only thanked the crowd for coming out, but the press as well! I’ve never been thanked for coming out to a show before, so it was nice to hear that praise amplified over the entire venue.

Wow, that was pretty in-depth analysis of The Remedials performance and a Spinal Tap reference no less how appropriate for this band! Good Job! No wonder it took so long to get published, somebody unlike The Remedials did his homework! Of course, The Remedials would like to thank Ron Cheng and Alex Ramon who braved the seedy part of town to see them at Vancouver’s legendary and historic punk rock venue The Cobalt! They didn’t have to worry too much about being there (hopefully they didn’t catch anything in the bathroom…) as The Remedials woulda had their backs and thrown down if it had come to that. Luckily, it didn’t which was great for The Remedials as they probably woulda gotten their heads kicked in except for maybe Wayne who has gotten up after being hit by a van and not hit by a van while in a another vehicle but hit by a van while crossing the street on his skateboard. So unless you’re Rocky Balboa or Chuck Norris, Wayne’s getting up after any amount of haymakers/roundhouse kicks are thrown. As for the rest of The Remedials, well before any altercations took place Lionel was probably passed out in the gutter somewhere and Gabe had already taken the prettiest girl home.

The Remedials First Report Card

Hey kids! Just as your parents feared when you arrived home with your first report card, it’s with that expectation The Remedials received their first printed album review in Victoria’s Absolute Underground! The Remidials received their first live show review by Jay Brown through the same magazine which you can find on their website on your own time. There is your first homework assignment girls and boys! If you don’t complete it in time then it’s suspension for you… What a gimme! Not only do you not have to do your homework, but you get rewarded with some time off too! And without further ado here’s the review…

The Remedials – Drop Outta School
Remedials Records

The Remedials strike a really nice balance on their second disc. Half the songs have a really catchy pop-punk feel to them, reminiscent of Screeching Weasel, and the other half have ruder, more in-your-face lyrical content, yet still poppy. These songs “Bloody Snot,” and “Date Rape” have a more Guttermouth/Queers fell to them. Vocal duties are divided between guitarist Gabe on the former songs, and bassist Wayne on the latter tunes. This second outing by The Remedials is just as polished, well played, and well produced as their first. Once again the great Mr. Jesse Gander at the Hive has been behind the wheel while these boys played the music, and once again he helps them create a neat, tight piece of work. This CD has something for everyone who is a fan of quick, catchy punk rock.

The Remedials Record Report Episode One

Hey kids! Looks like The Remedials are going all creative and sh_t and writing new tunes for what could be the next Remedial record! Holy Crap! The Remedials have been rehearsing in both the studio (plugged in and loud) and at the homes of The Remedials (plugged in and not so loud) for their show on December 12^th. This in itself is an amazing occurrence and that they happen to start working on new songs is simply mind blowing! In all honesty they should just keep their eye on the prize and focus on getting the songs they kinda know together for the show instead of dickin' around with new songs, but then again The Remedials have never been labeled as "smart".

The first song The Remedials have started work on is called "Zombie" and is about ninjas. Well, it's actually about zombies hence the title of the track. This song probably won't set the tone for the next Remedial record as the musical direction taken with it is venturing into new territory for the band! So far, the song will likely break the three minute mark and that's even without a "bridge" thrown in! Three minutes!? The Remedials!? Call Guinness! What are you guys Led Zeppelin!? Hopefully, they can shorten the song as Gabe is already worried he'd pass out in having to sing such a long song and I'm sure he doesn't want to have to hit the gym and work on his cardio in order to belt out the tune. What The Remedials have rehearsed so far for this song has sounded amazing and they are all stoked on playing new material!

So there it is bitches! There is another verse which is almost complete (actually it is complete) and the pre-chorus may be taken out as it actually hasn't been practiced yet, but it still is a great line. They'll just have to see how the whole thing plays out as everyone gets to put their two cents in. Gabe's also got a bunch more song ideas floating around in his head and just needs to put them on paper and then add music. Here's the song titles he's working on so far: Misunderstood, Astral Travel, Josephine Lombard and a bunch more. Look forward to what Lionel and Wayne have up their sleeves as well!

THE REMEDIALS RETURN WITH CANADIAN CD RELEASE OF PUNK ROCK CONCOCTION!

Vancouver, B.C. - Local punk trio The Remedials are making their return to the stage in support of the Canadian Release of Punk Rock Concoction Vol. 3 Compilation CD at the legendary Cobalt, located at 917 Main Street in Vancouver on Friday December 12th at 9pm. Tickets are available at the door.

After a vacation from live shows The Remedials are back playing tracks from their new studio album "Drop Outta School". Joining the ranks of local punk bands recorded by Jesse Gander (d.b.s., Black Rice, Ghosthouse) at the Hive Studios, the new effort strengthens The Remedials set list with ten more old school punk rock classics. "We're really stoked to play the new songs most we've never played live! And we love playing the Cobalt and it's always a fun show when we're there!" says Gabe (Vocals/Guitar). The Remedials are making waves this year with songs included in two Vancouver punk rock compilation CDs and songs featured on 99.3 The Fox Punk-O-Rama Show and The Grind Show on PunkRadioCast.com. Their born to lose motto is falling by the wayside as they are now being recognized in Vancouver's punk rock community.

Punk Rock Concoction is aimed at putting together bands' favorite (or best) songs. This is a complete DIY punk effort. The compilation will help listeners open up to new styles, new names, new companies, new record labels and most importantly new bands. The bands and the sponsors fund these projects so that they can give out good music for free. This is about bands working together for the scene. The American release of Punk Rock Concoction Vol. 3 was on October 11, 2008 at Liskfest in Irvine, CA. The Canadian release is December 12, 2008 at The Cobalt and will include songs by local punk rockers Raised By Apes and Cambridge.

The Remedials Get Castrated

Hey kids! If you have been faithfully checking out The Remedials Official MySpace Site daily for updates, you'll already know that they have been featured on Punk Radio Cast The Grind Vol XXXII (32)! Whoa!

This went down on Friday November 21^st 2008 and the show aired around 12pm PST, 1pm MST and 3pm EST. Not that you needed to be reminded because instead of doing your job as you were supposed to, you were listening to Punk Radio Cast streaming on your computer at work! And since you were, you were treated to music and an interview with Vancouver's Ninjaspy (who The Remedials played a show with) and music by Freedom in Fear also from Vancouver! This fits into the show's Vancouver's music scene spotlight for this episode and the next, so get in on that and check out these bands and the next The Grind show on Punk Radio Cast!

Next up was The Remedials in the "The Mail Box Artists" section of the show! The Remedials may not be as metal (although they are trying to get the hair down…) as the previous bands and they have shorter songs too! In their allotted time slot Chris from The Grind was able to play FIVE Remedial songs as opposed to the other two bands that got only two songs played respectively! The five songs that were played (in order) were: Stuck In Between, Anti-Social, Abduction, Possessed and Marilyn Monroe!

Outta Sight! So another 15 minutes of fame for your Friendly Neighborhood Remedials! Well more like just under 9 minutes if you add the total song lengths! The Remedials would like to thanks Chris at The Grind of Punk Radio Cast for playing our tunes to a world wide audience and pimping our December 12^th show at The Cobalt! The Remedials totally respect what they do for indie music and the punk rock community and will continue to support them in anyway they can! If you are starting to feel left out too? The Remedials Like Jam

Hey kids! Well it looks like summer is over for The Remedials and it's back to school! Boo! While on their vacation The Remedials did a bunch of cool things like: Getting married, getting engaged, breaking up, summer school, travelling to Europe, getting kicked outta a band and yet another member of The Remedials losing a musical instrument! Boo-yah! After taking exactly a year off to the day to jam for their first and only show of 2008, it was time to set the alarm clock so they aren't late for the short bus!

The Remedials have been trying to schedule a rehearsal since they are set to perform on Friday December 12^th at The Cobalt. They decided the best time would be on the anniversary of their last show at The Royal Unicorn Cabaret on November 9^th 2007! So with that the studio was booked and all they had to do was let Wayne of The Remedials know they were good to go. But why would they have to tell Wayne? Well, it's because he doesn't have a phone so instead of the regular channels of contacting him (snail mail or smoke signals) the rest of The Remedials decided to drop by his crib to give him the 411. Arriving early in the afternoon (an amazing feat for these kids) the day before the rehearsal with beer (now that's more like it) and then booking to Bon's for breakfast seemed like a rad way to get the news. Unfortunately, Wayne was working at a job that day (something Lionel and Gabe of The Remedials did not see coming at all) and therefore missed out on beer and Bon's. While waiting in line for breakfast Gabe called Wayne at work to give him the news and see if he was ready to rehearse and with a "No problem!" response it seemed like smooth sailing from here. But things are never that easy for The Remedials and when Lionel started wondering if Wayne even still had his bass guitar Gabe's reassurance started to waver.

Receiving a phone call a few hours before the scheduled rehearsal time, Wayne casually mentions to Gabe that his bass is in the pawn shop and he doesn't have cash to get it out. What a surprise! Wayne did take the initiative and called the rehearsal studio if they had a bass available but it was a "No go". Further conversations between The Remedials ensued to determine what their course of action would be. Finally, it was decided that Lionel of The Remedials would pony up the cake to get the bass outta hock as he was the only person who has saved up enough lunch money to make that happen. So armed with that plan Lionel picked up Gabe and Wayne in The Remedialmobile and it was off the pawn shop! Once the bass was back in the hands of it's respective (that term used loosely) owner it was off the rehearsal space to make some noise! And not a moment too soon as the bass shoulda been picked up a couple of months ago and was up for sale. When Wayne mentioned that "No one would buy this bass cuz it sucks!" to the pawn shop clerk, he just lowered the amount he'll get the next time he brings it in.

With all that behind them The Remedials showed up early to the studio and watched "Natural Born Killers" on the projection screen while waiting. Once it was their time to jam The Remedials entered the room and let loose after exactly a year off and who woulda thought that they would sound like they had never even stopped playing. Well not really… After going over the set list a few times The Remedials are confident they'll be ready to play on Friday December 12^th at The Cobalt! Here's the set list they'll be playing so you can jump on stage and sing along: Abduction / Bloody Snot / Claire Is Clairvoyant / Close Enough For A Punk Rock Band / F_ck N' Drink / Haunted House / Idiot / Stuck In Between / Succubus / $2 / 12345. So there it is The Remedials are getting ready to play and having a blast and you should all be getting stoked to finally see them back in action!

Hey kids! Here's the moment you've all been waiting for since like last year! The Remedials will be playing live in their first and last show of 2008 on December 12^th at the legendary punk rock venue The Cobalt! Get there early as The Remedials will be starting off the show! Joining them is Cambridge, Slush from Whistler and punk bros. Raised By Apes! Despite The Remedials inclusion it's gonna be a rad show! And maybe it'll be a "Seedy Release" show! And since it's almost Gabe of The Remedials B-Day we'll throw that one out there too! And maybe they can't even remember their own tunes! Maybe you should all just go and check it out! Witness The Remedials play the whole " Drop Outta School" album song for song! See how many they get wrong… So now that the stage has been set for The Remedials return they will have to jam to figure things out and see what's what. Hey kids! The Remedials really haven't done a lot this year, let's face it they haven't done anything at all! This is exactly why they were on vacation! But that hasn't stopped them from appearing on not one but possibly TWO Compilation CDs! How the hell did that happen?! Well here's how…

The Remedials will have TWO songs on this compilation CD "Close Enough For A Punk Rock Band" and "Idiot"! Next the gang at Vancouver's Punk as Fu_k (VPAF) will include The Remedials in the next VPAF compilation CD appropriately entitled Vol.2! The Remedials song to be included on this CD is "Close Enough For A Punk Rock Band". Why was this song chosen? Well according to Cam of VPAF "Cuz it rocks and it's short. Seems to be in short supply this time around." That's why and we couldn't agree more! Some of the other bands to be included on the CD are: Bison b.c., The Jolts, Bound By None, Boxfiller, Creeping Hand, Isotopes, the POGs and Cobweb Society! Holy Crap! It may end up being a double CD! Having a song get played on the radio is always a big deal but it's monumental for a band like The Remedials! They would like to thank Mary-Anne and Billy Hopeless of 99.3 The Fox Punk-O-Rama Show for playing one of their tunes and the recognition! People now think The Remedials are a real band (well not so much…). But now The Remedials can cross "Have a song get played on the radio" off their list of things to do! They still have a lot on that list though which include: Do the dishes, take out the trash, do the laundry, etc. The Remedials surprisingly have done a lot in their music career so far and can finally add this to the list. Perhaps they'll finally have a "Seedy Release Show" for their new album or simply just play a show somewhere. But you never know what will happen next with a band like The Remedials…

Wowzers! Yet another year with the Remedials, who woulda thought it was even remotely possible! And 2007-Eleven was to be the best and worst year for The Remedials in their turbulent, chaotic and mostly fun career!

Highlights from 2007 include! Because if they weren't highlight they'd be lowlights:
Recorded brand new studio album in stereo "Drop Outta School", "The Binge Tour" track included in Vancouver's Punk As F_ck Compilation (V.P.A.F.) CD, The Remedials play V.P.A.F Compilation CD Release Show At The Cobalt, Remedials photo by legendary punk rock photographer Bev. Davies included in "1,2,3,4 Live Concert Photography" Exhibit at Jem Gallery (was a rad night for The Remedials after playing the V.P.A.F. show they attended the 1,2,3,4 Exhibit the same night) and The Remedials Play CiTR's Shindig at The Railway Club!

What do The Remedials have planned for next year? Nothing! With recording a new album would The Remedials have a CD Release Party go on tour and pimp their album out to record labels? No, they would rather go on an extended vacation! Besides they all have other projects to keep them occupied for now. Wayne is in Boxfiller (and sometimes busks by L&M on Terminal) and Gabe is doing the Sid Died For Squid reunion (and has started to learn how to cook food) and Lionel being a really busy dude is in both Boxfiller and Sid Died For Squid (and still has time to do the Sun Run)! Besides, the next Remedial record, if you have been following their studio release schedule would be recorded in October or November of 2009! So let's just say they have plenty of time to waste till then…

The Remedials Can’t Shindig It

After submitting to CiTR's Shindig in hopes of playing The Railway Club. Despite the fact that The Remedials swore they'd never play a battle of the bands again. And by some divine intervention managed to deceive the Shindig judges into accepting their submission. Or perhaps Shindig's standards have fallen so low as to allow a band like The Remedials even compete. Regardless, The Remedials accomplished a lot in only one night! Not only did they finally get to play The Railway Club (while the model train chugged around the room no less!), they rendered the scensters/hipsters/everyone else speechless with only one song, got an audio recording of the entire performance ("Can You Shindig It?") and received valuable feedback from the judges!

Here's some highlights:

"Almost everyone in this city is playing noisy post-punk, so it's nice to hear some classic punk"

"Date Rape lyrics – F_ckin ballsy"

"Last song = dope"

"I like the way each of you brings the same strengths to the vocals – try to work in more of the three of you singing together"

"Performance was tight, mix was really good. Song and lyrics were catchy…"

"If I was betting on a fight on the bands tonight, I'd put my money on you guys, cause you'd win – yer meaner"

"You guys sound really natural and not at all contrived"

"PS. You are all out of tune"

Shindig 2007 was short and sweet for The Remedials!

The Remedials Versus Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy

While on the Skytrain home from jamming at Charts and after having more than their fair share of beer while there, The Remedials and Dave (who they stole the name The Remedials from) were just chillin' minding their own business and talking amongst themselves. When along came a guy who was a musician as well. The dude seemed normal at first but looks can be deceiving…

The guy walks over and sits by The Remedials, Gabe of The Remedials still had his Epiphone SG (sniff, sniff…) in a rectangular case held together with duct tape while Wayne of The Remedials didn't have a case at all for his bass and when it rains he would just use a garbage bag to keep it dry. So the guy introduces himself and asks if we're in a band, The Remedials response is always "Unfortunately". He mentions that he plays guitar as well so The Remedials start talking with the guy about music and guitars. Everything seemed all right at first until he mentioned that his guitar had been stolen in a case similar to Gabe of The Remedials. Things really went south when Lionel of The Remedials says, "Oh, yeah Gabe likes to steal guitars…" Needless to say at that precise moment the guy instantly thinks that Gabe has his guitar in his case.

Unfortunately, The Remedials cannot use the real name of this person, (as well all locations are fictional) so he shall be forever known as "Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy" and that's because he was. During the intense Skytrain ride starting from Metrotown Station, where mud was slung and bitches were almost slapped! The Remedials and Dave remained cool and composed, even when the odds were clearly in The Remedials favour (four guys with instruments versus one really crazy guy). The Remedials even apologized for some strange reason and even showed "Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy" the guitar in the case was in fact not his guitar! Although, it was almost "Go Time!" when "Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy" stood up from his seat and leered over Wayne and Gabe saying, "Hey man, I'm not the guy who got his guitar stolen!" didn't help the situation.

The only other guy on the Skytrain car who overheard the whole altercation got off at Stadium Station before he exits he turn to "Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy" and says "Dude, you're a f_ckin' idiot!" When "Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy" gets off at Granville Station and mumbles more obscenities to himself and anyone who'll listen we all then realize that "Musicians are real jerks somtime!" Unless it's The Remedials who are jerks all the time! The Remedials and Dave all exit at Burrard Station and once topside, Wayne and Lionel of The Remedials book to Pub 340 to continue drinking while Gabe of The Remedials and Dave head to more high-class establishment… Hooter's.

Wayne and Lionel arrive at Pub 340 after they were able to get off sales. While there, they run into the guy who left the Skytrain and called "Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy" a f_cking idiot. Wanting to drink, Wayne of The Remedials grabs an empty pitcher and goes from table to table filling it with the bottom beer of every glass he could find the bartender must have thought this was amusing and helped out as well probably until Wayne drank the half full pitcher of collected bottom beer. The stunned bartender feeling sorry for the punk had a change of heart and decided to sell off sales to Wayne and Lionel well after last call. Having scored more beer they both staggered to Science World and hung out in the park drinking till the sun came up! Altogether an otherwise happy ending to what could have been a messed up night for "Crazy Stolen Guitar Guy" cause Wayne woulda turned him into a human pretzel.

Moral of the Story: "Karma, Kids!" and "Don't f_ck with Punk Rock Wayne!

Whoa! Another year with The Remedials (a band that shouldn't have started in the first place) and what a rad time it was for those dumb punks! After a rough start to the year and then getting progressively worst to the end…

Entire "A New Rock Reality" Episode devoted to The Remedials! 10^th Remedial Report filmed! Gabe finishes paying off his SG (Gabe plays an SG Special cuz Gabe's special), Wayne gets a longer cord (no longer tied down by a mere 3 feet watch out…), Lionel get a brand new kit (Pearl Export – EX, Jet Black) and finally a Remedial Engagement (The Remedials will get to play a wedding and more importantly Remedial Stag!)

"A New Rock Reality" a local reality show produced by Scott Holman airing on Novus Channel 4 which showcases the best (and in this case the worst) the Vancouver music scene has to offer has demoted an entire episode to The Remedials?! No, not a measly 22 minutes… But, an extended 30 minutes! Which if you know is like the entire Remedials set four times! So aside from the extensive song list what filler would they have to throw down for a whole episode…

Gabe of The Remedials is finally done school but he doesn't feel any smarter. Wayne of The Remedials is still drinking and losing more brain cells not the smartest thing but still kinda cool. Lionel of The Remedials has been taking vacation, which is pretty smart. Hey, two outta three ain't bad? After weeks of not talking to each other The Remedials have finally gotten back together to write songs for their next album "Drop Outta School". So before they break up they better throw down another record…

The Remedials next album will be darker (as the song titles suggest) than the previous bubblegum record "Songs For The A.D.D. Generation" think gag bubblegum that turns your teeth black. Knowing they'll have a lot to live up to when comparing sophomore albums like: Danzig's Lucifuge II, Faith No More's Angel Dust and Weezer's Pinkerton which have been these bands best albums, The Remedials know they'll have their work cut out for them. Luckily, they have no desire to impress or care if anyone digs it cuz they have only written songs for themselves and no one else.

If all works out The Remedials will reunite with Jesse Gander at The Hive (the only person The Remedials will ever record with… if he's unavailable the album just won't get recorded then) who has invited The Remedials to record there again (as seen on "A New Rock Reality" Episode 20) and they are gonna hold him to that!

The song list so far: Mixed Signals, Date Rape, Succubus, Bloody Snot, $2, Haunted House, Abduction and Stuck In Between.
Other songs may include: Vampire, Idiot, Claire Is Clairvoyant, Test Tube Baby and The Resurrection Of Glenn Danzig.

This album may surprise a lot of people including The Remedials themselves with a song longer than 3 minutes, an acoustic song (which Gabe won't be playing) and Lionel steppin' up to tha mike for a song, but the album will probably still be less than half an hour long. Not cuz they think people don't have the attention span it's cuz The Remedials don't.

Remember kids, don't look forward to hearing any new songs at their shows yet or expect the new album out soon cuz The Remedials have to start saving their lunch money again to get this going on. And the last record cost less than Nirvana's Bleach to record and that's in Canadian funds boys and girls!

The Remedials philosophy (if they have one) on song writing and their music has always been: "If you don't like our music well fu_k you! And if you do like our music well fu_k you too!"

So what have the punks in The Remedials been up to since the last blog? Well, who really cares...

Regardless, here's a few answers to questions people have been sweating them on.

"Have you guys played any new shows?"

Unfortunately. The Remedials don't advertise any of the shows they do cuz what's the point? If you didn't already know they were playing and didn't make it well ya missed out. And that's a good thing! Here's the last five shows The Remedials have played: Pub 340 with Raised By Apes (Wayne needs a belt for his pants...), Logan's Pub in Victoria (The Remedials first island adventure was outta control from what they were able to remember), Endoplasmic in Langley and then booking to Pub 340 in Vancouver the same night (Robatussin and Red Bull...) and The Columbia (The Remedials really felt sorry for the two girls who got laid out in the pit)!

"When's your next show?"

Who knows? Rumour has it they might play a house party in Edmonton? Yeah, Edmonton. The Remedials first tour with only one date! Rest assured The Remedials will be playing more shows soon cuz how else would they jam! They'd prefer to just play one show a month but have screwed up and played two a month and even two in one night. Check back often as they may surprise you and themselves with a show!

"So how about my Remedials shirt?"

Yeah. The Remedials finally have new shirt designs done up. Now you can grab the "Vampire" shirt once they get around to doing em' up. Please be patient the kids in Denderah (maybe ya shouldn't have paid in advance cuz they kinda owe you now...), The Last Remnants and everyone else. Thanks!

"You punks ever gonna play any new songs?"

Eventually. The Remedials have some new tunes to work on here's a few of the song titles: Mixed Signals, Haunted House, Succubus, Vampire and Idiot. If The Remedials wanna head back to the studio they'll have to come up with something new or newer, cuz there's only so much ya can do with three chords.

"So what's up with you guys?"

Tons. Some stuff they can talk about and even more they can't. Gabe's back in school again...Wayne of The Remedials is now a first aid attendant, which comes in handy at a Remedials show. Lionel and Wayne got drunk in the park after picking up off sales at The Legion. Gabe of The Remedials and Scott of Auto Switch crashed New Music West with Media Passes! It was a rough few days but they were able to get through it somewhat... See the aftermath for yourself on The 6^th at: http://www.thebarbecuties.de.vu They're outta sight! The Remedials one-year anniversary on MySpace. The Remedial Reports (somewhat) still airing on Novus Channel 34, six times a day, seven days a week for two weeks.

The Remedials Just Wanna Have Fun

Even though The Remedials haven't even jammed (which was almost a month) since returning from Bowen Island (Gabe of The Remedials guitar and Wayne of The Remedials bass was at Lionel of The Remedials crib the whole time) when they played at Pub 340, The Remedials only had to impress one person that night and needless to say they did! Thanks to Cobweb Society (these guys and girl are outta sight! We'll be playing more shows with em') and Christ Puncher (who didn't show...) for having us play. Look forward to The Remedials playing more shows at Pub 340.

The Remedials wanna play there with our punk bros Raised By Apes (who played The Columbia the same night we played Pub 340, if they hadn't already finished when we got on we woulda told everyone in the bar to go see em' instead), the POGs (the show at New West was wicked with Jerry Demon schooling everyone on why the wireless unit was invented, running and jumping from table to table to table and back to the stage was pretty cool and crashing into an unsuspecting Juice at the end of the set - check out the video at myspace.com/thepogs - had everyone cheering except the promoter and sound guy who slapped Jerry's wrists for his on and off stage antics! * The Remedials will always have a soft spot for ska, we listened to The Specials, Skankin' Pickle, Op Ivy and Choking Victim so when Beer For Breakfast played we stuck around to check em' out and now we can't get "I Hate You (I Hate Your Friends)" outta our heads hear em' here: beerforbreakfast.ca you've been warned, plus they got one of the coolest band names ever *, The Remenants (these guys and girl have something scheming which you'll hear about soon...) and Denderah (who played another awesome set at The Columbia - Gabe missed out on the crazy boob lady thankfully - check out the new mixes of Ten Year War and Sentence at myspace.com/denderah, The Remedials are choked to hear Kwin got roughed up at Pub 340 on St. Patrick's Day, we were gonna go to that show too good thing we didn't cuz we woulda given those punks the "People's Elbow")...

After a fun show at Pub 340, thanks to the POGs for showing up (we'll hook Juice and Marty up with shirts too) and jumping on stage and in the pit! The Remedials used the cash they made at that show to buy more beer since it was already last call at Pub 340 they had to go to The Railway Club. On the way there after having a drunken snowball fight and Lionel being shoved to the slushy wet cold hard pavement courtesy of Wayne. Ouch! The Remedials made their way to the smoking section and hung out with Jay from The Black Halos.

The Remedials are shocked that they have finally been paid "real" money for playing shows (who woulda thought certainly not us) since all they have been given so far is beer. Since The Remedials are quite content with getting paid in beer (after the infamous Asbalt show if it wasn't last call when we got paid, all that cash - which was quite a bit - woulda been transformed into beer, but instead financed our Bowen Island trip) but now that they get paid in cold hard cash does that make them a professional band? Or even musicians? Well, no it doesn't. Gabe still can't tune his guitar, Wayne still forgets what to play and Lionel still can't count to five.

For a band that doesn't really promote itself (we discourage people from going to our shows) in their own town let alone any others we've got peeps in a real city T.O.! Since Gabe of The Remedials kid bro Danny Boy (our #1 fan) works at a tattoo shop everyone he inks has to sit thru The Remedials CD (Danny's got three Remedials CDs, one at the shop, one at home and one in his portable CD player) and everyone who listens to it digs it. One girl said "This can't be your bros band!" and when Danny goes "Why?" she says, "Cuz they're good!" Uh, we're still trying to figure that one out... Digging our tunes is one thing but now kids are getting Remedials tattoos?! That doesn't rub off ya know! We wouldn't have believed it ourselves until we've seen the pictures, check em' out for yourself they're posted in the pics section.

Damn, I guess we can't break up now since these kids are all getting inked...

The Remedials Crash Schmusic BC Again

After Gabe and Lionel of The Remedials attended the stellar VBA show on a Thursday night (and downed a ton of beer) then even later that night when Gabe and Kwin of Denderah (who played a phenomenal set) hung out at The Yale (some of the people in that place are right outta a comicbook!) and had even more beer! If that wasn't enough Scott of Auto Switch and Gabe of The Remedials crashed the Schmusic BC Party again at The Media Club the next night...

After receiving our free drink ticket for any Sleemans product (Honey Brown!) and getting our first free shot of Jager (Gabe of The Remedials drank a total of 10 that night) from one of the three Jagerettes it was off to fill out our scavenger hunt sheet! In a failed attempt to get people to talk to each other, you gotta find people to fill out your sheet. You need to find a manager, a photographer, Music BC board member, guitar player, etc. Once completed you get put in a draw for some prize (which Scott of Auto Switch won) given out at the end of the night. While at the bar we ran into the bass player from Arctic (who have two songs and an interview on "A New Rock Reality" Episode 10) when Gabe goes "Hey, I saw you on TV!" she seemed kinda surprised until she saw Scott of Auto Switch there too. Since she was the only bass player there who could read charts (whatever that is) we were able to get her to sign our sheet. Score! After a few more shots of Jager we ran into Michelle Will who we met at Tom Lee at a Music BC panel discussion, she mentioned she was off to T.O. and wanted the name of the tattoo shop (Reactive Ink) Gabe's kid bro works at since she wanted to get inked while there (Gabe tried to convince her to get a Remedials "numbskull" tattoo like his bro got in his armpit, he's now our number one fan!) attending the CMW thing. Also there was Pomy of LTG (who played a rad set the night before at The Buffalo Club) who we hung out with most of the night. Gabe chatted with some of the members of Sugarblade (who were at The Remedials Asbalt show), Cecilia Rose (an up and coming folk singer, thanks for the CD!) and of course the Jagerettes! After more shots of Jager we hung out with Dunner and Lana from CFOX (Lana scored a Remedials CD) thanks to Lana who tried helping Gabe, Scott and Pomy answer the trivia questions but since they were already loaded they just screamed out the answers as well as "Gowan!" the whole time! During trivia we ran into Cory of Skookum (the guy did the new VBA logo) and had a few more beers and shots. Gabe of The Remedials was supposed to go to Trail vs. Russia and Golden Phoenix at The Lamplighter later that night but was way too wasted but somehow managed to wake up at home, he still regrets not making it to that show.

The next day Gabe of The Remedials was off to The Legion in Lionel of The Remedials hood to play darts with Wayne of The Remedials and Shannon (Happy B-Day!) Having both been duped into signing up for darts Gabe and Lionel played (if you can call it that) and started drinking from 12:30pm all the way to 7:00pm while playing darts. Gabe's team won a prize for being the worst team at the tournament! Booyah! After the tournament was over it was time for karaoke! Shannon sang Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" and The Divinyls "I Touch Myself" again. Gabe of The Remedials jumped on stage for The Ramones "I Wanna Be Sedated" and after drinking all day he was!

After the "A New Rock Reality" screening at Lionel's pad the next Saturday it was off to The Legion again for more karaoke (with all the karaoke The Remedials have been doing lately they may actually learn to sing) this time with Jerry of the POGs! Wayne and Gabe of The Remedials jumped on stage for Twisted Sister's "Were Not Gonna Take It" while Lionel of The Remedials moshed in the pit! Jerry of the POGs totally wanted to sing The Remedials "Superstitious" and after grabbing his Remedials CD (he never leaves home without it!) convinced the DJ to throw it down! So on stage Gabe, Wayne and Jerry did Remedial karaoke to a Remedials song (Gabe still looked to the teleprompt for the lyrics) to The Legion crowd! Even more amazing was when finished the lady DJ was like "That's an original song? That was really good!" After some train hoppin' Jerry of the POGs made it home safe and sound and The Remedials staggered home as well. Look forward to the POGs going into the studio to record a new CD in May! Since they're gonna record at The Hive, The Remedials want em' to re-record the vocals of The Remedials "Superstitious" with the POGs singing! If you been to any of our shows you'll know they've done a way better job singin' that tune then The Remedials do!

The Remedials Dish Out Sage-Like Advice

Scott of Auto Switch and Gabe of The Remedials had a meeting a few weeks ago with the head honchos of a new on-line music service. This new website will allow musicians to sell their music on-line and make money right away! Damn, this sounds like a starving musician's wet dream come true! The Remedials couldn't really care less if their music sells or not, but surprising it does for some strange reason. Same with The Remedials shirts, which due to overwhelming requests they'll have to do another run! But hey if The Remedials didn't have to pay rent or weren't addicted to food and beer we would totally give our music away to everyone and have kinda done so already. This sit down was to take place at a swanky restaurant downtown in which Gabe of The Remedials had to buy clothes at an expensive shop, keep the receipt and return the next day. After the introductions were made the players included: David (El Presidente), Stephen (Director of Marketing and Community), Kay (Director of Marketing), Scott from Auto Switch and Gabe from The Remedials. After discussing the format and scope of the website, the company and what they hope to accomplish over a few pitchers of beer (why can't every meeting be like this?) Kay gave Gabe a lesson on marketing principles to which he could only just smile and nod. The Remedials like Kay and that quickly turned to love when asked what kind of music she listens to, Kay's response was "I grew up with Dayglo and Social D!" Surprising, they were all really grateful for the input and insight both Scott and Gabe had to give on the Vancouver music scene, on-line distro and what they would like to see on the site (who woulda though Gabe of The Remedials had anything somewhat relevant to say to business people or anyone else) although they did kinda rain on their parade a bit with a few remarks. Overall the meeting turned out not to be a total waste of time! Especially after David picked up the check, we knew we shoulda ordered more beer...

So this website is still in the beta process the site will go live on March 15^thand by then you'll probably have already heard about it since there was already a write up about em' in The Province newspaper. When Gabe ran into Kay in his hood (thanks for the stickers!) and told her The Remedials are gonna upload songs on the site she said she'll buy one of our songs! Gabe then wondered what their return policy was... She also mentioned there's a lot interest from investors and how much cash they were able to raise from their friends and families (The Remedials wish they had friends like that!) which is rad for them. So this site sounds cool (and even The Remedials were able to figure things out) we're still not really sold on the name though but if myspace starts charging money The Remedials will probably move their base of operations to this site since it does everything we need for a price we can afford FREE! You can see an interview with Kay on "A New Rock Reality" Episode 9 as well as the debut of "The Remedial Report"! Look forward to reoccurring segments with Kay as she showcases local bands on the site!

The Remedials Don’t Do Karaoke

Wayne of The Remedials and Shannon decided to have a few drinks and play darts with the old folks at The Legion in their hood in what would seem like an uneventful night...

Little did the two know that karaoke was going on and always wanting to be on stage Wayne and Shannon decide to give it a go! Having already downed a couple pitchers of beer and a couple of shooters Wayne goes on stage to do Hank Williams "Jumbalaya" since his voice was still thrashed as was Gabe of The Remedials after doing two shows in two nights! Wayne powered thru it all harsh voiced and raspy and once finished over heard one guys say "Man, that had to hurt!" while in the smoking room. A few shots of Jack Daniels and Scotch for Wayne and a Tequila Paralizer for Shannon, Wayne goes up for round two in which he requests "Good Old Boys" thinking it was the Duke of Hazzard song, realizing his mistake that it wasn't the song he wanted Wayne tells the DJ to kill it and exits stage left. Not to be out done while Shannon's up for Blondie's "Call Me" since she doesn't do French she had to mumble thru that part of the tune. After another pitcher of beer and a few shots of Fireball (Gabe of The Remedials hates Fireball) when the DJ threw down some David Allen Coe, Wayne of The Remedials had to jump on stage and join in on the action! Wayne and Shannon decide on the last two songs they'll do for the night and give Gabe of The Remedials a call to let em' know what they were. Wayne says "Hey we're loaded at The Legion doing karaoke and Shannon's gonna sing The Divinyls "I Touch Myself" and I'm gonna do Dead Kennedys "Too Drunk To Fuck!" to which Gabe goes "No way, they have a Dead Kennedys song for karaoke! You gotta phone me when you go on and let me listen to that!" Wayne responds with "I'm gonna do another four shots of Scotch before I go on and call ya back!" After about ten minutes Gabe gets a call from Wayne that Shannon got a free drink (not that they really needed anymore to drink) for her stellar performance of the song! But when Wayne went up, after just singing the first chorus of the song the waitress started to freak out and got the DJ to kill the song, as well he forgot to phone Gabe back. While still at The Legion and after copious amount of alcohol Wayne staggers to the washroom and pukes filling the bowl twice! Shannon was able to wait till they got home though! All together an alright night for those crazy kids! Since it's Shannon's B-Day this weekend The Remedials are gonna get wasted!

The VBA had an amazing show on Thursday at The Buffalo Club! The Remedials have never seen that place so packed and this was the best show we've seen so far! I guess those media mail outs really do work and even Chad from Nickelback showed up support the local bands that played! Great job by The Ingredients (Stop calling me...we can't get that song outta our heads!), LTG (Pomy smashing the guitar was rad!) and Denderah (in which the POGs and The Remedials jumped into the pit!) which totally impressed the crowd! Gabe of The Remedials was asked to film the band State Of Shock and after left with the camera with Kwin of Denderah and his bros to the Yale, which they both surprising kinda stayed outta trouble. There's sure to be some interesting footage on that camera. So another rad night for both Gabe and Lionel of The Remedials! Thanks to Sean from SPM Music for the free beer tickets and a free ticket to any SPM Music show next month!

The Remedials Get Zolarized!

Gabe of The Remedials pulled another two shows in one night again. Having done this on more than a few occasions like The Dropkick Murphys at the C.C.C. and The Hanson Brothers at The Cobalt, The Weedies at B.C.I.T. (Gabe of The Remedials and Kwin of Denderah were only on the school property for about five minutes before they had two security guards hassle them) and Willy B. Sober at The Brickyard (RIP) and VBA Show #1 at The Buffalo Club and Deerhoof at Dicks!

the POGs were supposed to be on at 9pm but when Gabe showed up at 9:15 to Remedial represent they were just hanging around drinking beer and playing pool. * Please note never play pool with Juice from the POGs for money you will lose everytime! * While hanging with the POGs they mentioned they are once again playing as a three-piece and that they have parted ways with their bass player. When asked "Why?" the POGs said that he doesn't show up to jam (the dude lives like a block away from where they jam) and he doesn't call, hey this kinda sounds like a certain bass player The Remedials know! Since Gabe had to book to the Waldorf Hotel when asked how long their set was gonna be the POGs responded with nine songs with no breaks in about twenty minutes! Perfect! They opened up with "Johnny" and instantly got the whole bar up on their feet to check em' out! While Gabe was at the bar the POGs mentioned this was their last song that is a cover and if anyone knows the lyrics to jump on the mike! So after quickly paying for his beer dashed to the nearest mike and with bottle in hand and mike stand in the other blasted thru "The Crusher" with the POGs! After the show Gabe hung out with the POGs and the guys in Laying Waste a new band from Victoria who will try and get The Remedials over to play some shows on the island. Rumour has it The Remedials may return to Endoplasmic for another show with the POGs (On Kevin's B-Day) and Denderah! If these rumours turn out to be true this show will be off the hook!

Upon entering The Waldorf Hotel, which was getting totally packed for Zolar X there were plenty of people in other local bands (Cadeaux, Vancouger, Riff Randalls and The Evaporators) who showed up. Even before making a B-Line for the bar Gabe of The Remedials ran into Buddy ROCK'N of ROCK'N and the rest of the gang. On his way to the bar Gabe ran into Lionel of The Remedials, which was soon to be problematic, as both never had an empty glass the whole night. The Remedials missed the Robosexuals who we met at The Hive on the tour of the place with Jesse Gander. The next band was Nim Vind who played a stellar show! Lionel of The Remedials chatted with Nardwuar "The Human Serviette" and scored him a Remedials CD. Checking out the stage before the show there's two huge space age speakers on either side of the stage and an ultra cool double kick drum set and you just know this show would be outta this world! Just before Zolar X took the stage the hype man (who's the same guy who introduces at Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted) announced the return of Zolar X from Plutonia and once Ygarr Ygarrist, Jett Starsystems and Eon Flash stepped on the stage the crowd went outta control! Gabe and Lionel of The Remedials with Buddy ROCK'N were front and center the whole night singing along to Rocket Roll, Space Age Love and Jet Star 19! The E.B.E.'s known as Zolar X were outfitted in their trademark space suits and bopped around like there was no gravity, all while Ygarr shredded his fret lit guitar like no one else can at least on this planet! The Remedials could go on and on about this show but will save it for their grand kids! Zolar X was unable to leave the stage cuz Buddy ROCK'N and The Remedials kept screaming out for them to play just one more song over and over again! During the hypnotizing show Eon Flash's drumstick flew into the crowd and after a mad scramble between Buddy ROCK'N and Lionel of The Remedials, Buddy emerged with the stick! After the show The Remedials shook hands (we're never washing our hands again) and thanked everyone in Zolar X for playing the best show we've ever seen only KISS and GWAR come close. Gabe of The Remedials ran into Buddy ROCK'N after the show were he mentioned he grabbed the stick outta Lionel's hand and said he was gonna give it to him to which Gabe was like "No way ya gotta keep it!". After picking up a shirt and an autographed photo The Remedials were good to go! Everyone The Remedials and ROCK'N invited to the show couldn't say enough great things about the legendary glam rockers known as Zolar X! Thanks for returning to Earth and The Remedials and ROCK'N can't wait for your next visit!

The Remedials Emerge At Emergenza

A few bands in the VBA entered the Emergenza Music Festival at The Media Club when it was here. Not knowing anything about this festival Gabe of The Remedials had to search what this thing was all about since he couldn't even pronounce the name right. There was a little controversy about the whole festival from some of the bands who entered, who are we kidding there was a lot actually. But since it's a battle of the bands were the winner is decided by how many tickets you sell what do ya expect? Scoring tickets for half the suggested retail price Gabe showed up to the weekend long festival to support our buds in bands that played. The first night Dreams of Treason played to their peeps and bands LTG, Novastatik, The Weedies and The Remedials. Since Gabe of The Remedials hung out with them before the show we know Alex may have had a few too many. Regardless, they had a rad show and advanced to next round at Dick's on April 1^st!The Remedials were unable to attend the next night cuz they had a house party to play not that they needed to show since Skookum the band we wanted to see advanced to the next round anyways! The second last night The Weedies put on an amazing show as always! The Remedials are gonna give The Weedies props for doing the most punk rock thing ever by playing a cover in the festival! The last night Novastatik played The Remedials tried to get there but were too messed up to make it. Not that it mattered they advanced to the next round as well. Congratulations to all the bands who advanced and The Remedials will be there to cheer ya on (provided ya make with the discount tickets) and drink beer!

This weekend would also end on a sad note as our number one and only fan Brock has left the country. This dude has gone to almost all our shows including our first at the Pic Pub and Denderah's last house party. Even though the guy likes Denderah better, we asked him which band he liked the best after The Remedials and Denderah played at Charts. He said "Denderah!" to which we're like well what about us? "Denderah has more talent" and to which we had no come back to that at all. He's gone to the only place The Remedials would wanna tour Japan! So now The Remedials have a place to stay in the land of the rising sun! He's gonna try and scope out promoters for The Remedials to play out there so we'll have to wait and see how that plays out... So happy trails Brock we'll see ya soon and all the best bro!

For some reason we're still getting props on the infamous New Year's Eve show. In a interview the POGs did for the latest episode of "A New Rock Reality" TV show Kevin from the POGs said "on camera" no less that he loved The Remedials set (while Jerry and Juice tried to contain their laughter) and all the chaos that occurred during the set. Thanks guys the cheques is in the mail. The POGs segment also included a stellar performance of "Johnny" at Charts with an interview with the band. Great stuff so check it. Not only did the POGs give us props but also Gabe of The Remedials got the sweetest compliment from a girl who attended the show. He didn't remember talking to her, her name, the tattoo she showed him or even playing that night. When The Remedials went to the Legion in Lionel of The Remedials hood after jamming to throw down some karaoke (Gabe was gonna do "I Wanna Be Sedated" while being sedated) we ran into her there. When she came up to The Remedials and said she saw us at the New Year's show we figured she wanted her money back (the show was free) or punch us out! She mentioned sticking around for most of the show despite the calamity and when Gabe asked, "Well, why did ya stick around?" she said "Cuz of you". If you were at that show that compliment is even much more sweeter than it sounds! But The Remedials received tons of props on the even more infamous Asbalt show! The crew from CTV that Scott from Auto Switch duped into attending couldn't stop talking about it on Monday morning by the watercooler! Thanks to Kevin, Jerry and Juice of the POGs who spent more time on stage than in the pit, Kwin from Denderah, Alex from Dreams Of Treason, Pomy from LTG and everyone else who showed up! None of The Remedials were able to sleep after cuz we were all too stoked on the show! The Remedials wanna thank Raised By Apes for letting us play and babysitting The Remedials on Bowen Island (we're never drinking Everclear again) and just being the raddest hosts ever! We all had way too much fun that weekend! We're totally looking forward to touring (mother's lock up your daughters) with ya this summer!

The next Remedial Report will have pictures of the outta control and crazy Asbalt show (minus all the nudity sorry folks) since Gabe lost his voice!

The Remedials Rock Denderah's Crib

Gabe of The Remedials arrived on the scene with bros. in tow and after about an hour of chatting with the bands and everyone else on the patio finally entered Mike and Kwin of Denderah's house party. Mike's son who's like maybe seven or eight instantly remembers Gabe since the last time he was there cuz in the Denderah household there's a swear jar which Gabe already gave the kid like $10 in advance, he still owes him $20 though. Lionel of The Remedials arrived a bit later and since he was driving stayed outta trouble this night somewhat. Wayne of The Remedials had already started drinking since 3pm (big surprise there) and was questionable whether he'd be showing up at all no one was more surprised to see him there than The Remedials themselves. There's a lot of stuff that went down that night which were gonna leave out at the request of The Remedials P.O. Here's how the night broke down...

The party started with rad performances by Anita Hoare, The Remenants (who played the last house party, The Remedials couldn't remember them cuz they didn't remember even playing themselves) and Denderah. The next-door neighbor didn't like the music (The Remedials hadn't even played yet) and told Denderah to shut it down by 11pm. With three bands left (the POGs, The Remedials and The Weedies) and only a half hour till 11pm will all the bands be able to play? Damn rights, they're all punk bands man!

the POGs ripped thru their set as a three-piece again with more than enough energy to spare we dunno what these kids are on but The Remedials are gonna have to hook it up! With the last song being "The Crusher" Gabe of The Remedials and Kwin of Denderah joined in on the chorus once again. Whenever the POGs play that cover Gabe's spidey-sense will go off he's gonna jump on stage wherever they are The Remedials have always been amazed when: 1) Bands that we'd given our CD to actually listen to it 2) They actually like it well (so they say) and 3) They like a certain song which they can actually name! With The Remedials having only 10 minutes to play we'd figure we could go thru half our set. Once The Remedials were semi-tuned and ready to rock Kevin and Jerry of the POGs requested we play "Superstitious" cuz they wanted to sing along. Gabe of The Remedials was like "Really? Ya got it!". So Gabe goes to Lionel and Wayne let's play this song first to which they're like "Really? No way!". Gabe had to tell em' the POGs wanna sing it to convince em' to play. We dunno about you but it's the coolest thing ever when a band you dig knows your songs, hell these guys know the lyrics to the song better than us! Even cooler was that Gabe only had to sing the verses these guys even knew the pre-chorus (if that's even what its called) and just tried to play guitar. The Remedials blasted thru four songs in well under 10 minutes: "Superstitious", "Possessed", "I Turned Into A Martian" by The Misfits and "The Binge Tour" with the help of the POGs and everyone in the living room singing thru one mike. The Remedials think this was their best show so far that we can remember. Playing house parties are the best and The Remedials wish they could just play house parties for money but since they haven't made any money (only beer) playing shows it doesn't really matter. Look out for Denderah, the POGs and The Remedials 2006 Summer House Party Tour crashing a hood near you!

The last band was The Weedies and we can't say enough great things about these guys! How many times do you get a pro band to play for ya in a living room? Not often and to see these guys play is something else entirely! Scott shredding on guitar and stage antics, Jesse playing the drums like Animal from The Muppet Show and Goonie able drink a bottle of beer while still playing bass is truly amazing! Let's make sure The Remedials don't try that at home cuz they'll probably choke to death. They got the packed house jumping around but ended up shutting things down around 11:11pm so the cops wouldn't show.

The Remedials wanna thank Kwin, Mike and James of Denderah and Mike's wife for taking easy on The Remedials when Wayne almost put Gabe thru the bedroom door where their kid was sleeping. Thanks to the POGs singing along they better jump on stage at the Asbalt show, The Weedies (and The Goon for giving us props on our set) for just being really cool and always putting on a stellar show and Tara and John of The Remenants (who were outta sight!) and Anita Hoare. With a lot of help from their friends The Remedials were able to make it home safe and sound and all went to bed with their ears ringing and smiles on their faces on a job well done. So how intense could The Remedials set be? Well when Gabe woke up in the morning to check his guitar the strings and pickups were covered in dried blood!

The Remedials Raid The Airwaves

Just when you thought you'd seen everything on TV or that it couldn't get any worse. After much drunken deliberation and finally a double dare...

Gabe from The Remedials will have his own reoccurring segment on "A New Rock Reality" TV show appropriately entitled "The Remedial Report". Who woulda thought those e-mail rumours would turn out to be true! During these segments Gabe will discuss the Vancouver music scene, upcoming shows, reviews of concerts he's gone to, of course all things V.B.A. related and whatever else he can rant about. Gabe is still in negotiations with his agent to get the best contract for himself he's currently seeking a 3-year multi-million dollar deal. Once the legalities have been worked out the camera will begin to roll as will heads when these segments air. So if you don't already watch "A New Rock Reality" on Novus Channel 34 well here's another reason not to but if you do you guys and girls get the bonus plan!

If that wasn't bad enough look forward to the first contest on "A New Rock Reality" which will be win a date/night out with The Remedials and/or Denderah or Gabe from The Remedials and Kristin Unger go on blind dates with the contest winners. Bands and format subject to change at anytime but if ya want in e-mail: revolutionproductions@shaw.ca to enter. Contestants must be over the age of 19 or have a really good fake ID. You'll get to hang with the bad apples of the V.B.A. since Denderah is the only other band that can drink as much as us, well except maybe Willy B. Sober. The whole night of drunken debauchery will be filmed and shown on a future episode of "A New Rock Reality". The Remedials will also have one of their songs on an extreme sports TV show! We'll let ya know what song and when the show airs. As well, there's a possibility a Remedials song could be used as wrestler entry music for a semi-pro wrestling circuit! The Remedials think "Possessed" could work but that wrestler is gonna have to book straight to the ring since the songs like 49 seconds long. We'll see how that plays out but that would be rad like Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka leaping off the top rope!

The Remedials Seedy Release Party will be at the Asbalt (Astoria Hotel) on Friday February 10, 2006! Remember kids, if ya don't have a Remedials CD well then you're just not cool!

The Remedials Sell Out

After hearing "When can I get your guys CD already!" for the gazillionth time, The Remedials will finally have CDs for sale! Not waiting to get a distro deal or pay to get our CDs pressed, Remedial Records has now been formed! Armed with a flawed business plan and even less experience or business savvy, we'll make our own CDs dammit! For the less than the price of bus fare (yes, only one-zone) you can grab a copy (and we're using that term literally kids) of our CD and for those who are still like so how much? They're gonna be $2 each for a CD you can always grab a shirt too for $10; we know your thinkin' how do you guys make any money selling your merch at that price? You know what we don't! Keeping with the whole D.I.Y. attitude every shirt was silk-screened and ironed by The Remedials (just ask Lionel, he'll tell ya all about it) and every CD will be autographed (we were gonna sell them for $5 which is like a three-zone fare, but since its signed by us thus depreciating the value to a one-zone fare) by one of The Remedials so collect them all! They will also be available in two flavors, the "Only Vampires Suck More" with the Vampire on the cover and the limited edition (Only 25 on the whole planet!) "Even Zombies Are Smarter" with the Zombie on the cover. Not only that but hidden in one of the CDs will be a coupon ya can redeem for a free Remedials Shirt!!! How cool is that you get an autographed CD and a possible free Shirt for a toonie! Ya better get in on this action before The Remedials get wise to the idea that this really isn't a good idea, but chances are they'll never clue in come on they're The Remedials!

For all of you who keep asking about the events that occurred on The Remedials New Years Eve set all will be revealed soon enough. Between the three of us we should be able to give an accurate account of all the anarchy. The Remedials will confirm a few details: Yes, The Candy Bar bartender did give The Remedials free shots of Southern Comfort, he also did get kicked in the balls and punched in the face (yeah, things did kinda get outta hand) and at the end of the night took his shirt off, much to the discontent of everyone who attended. That's about all we'll tell ya for now there's plenty more were that came from though so stick around for all the gory details.

The Remedials Play With Pogs

After Wayne of The Remedials met Gabe of The Remedials at his work and after a few beers at work and a single of Colt 45 and a bummed smoke on the way The Remedials checked out the POGs at the Pic Pub last Thursday. The Remedials just missed their show at Pub 340 with Denderah so we had to support them at the Pic. With Gabe and Wayne in the pit the POGs played a stellar show to the Pic Pub crowd! Look out for these punks to blow up in 2006! They sounded great thanks to Johnny (from the band Mongoose) who did the sound for them and for The Remedials at their Mesa Luna show. When the POGs played The Crusher from the last Ramones album Gabe was on stage to sing the chorus! Before the show we hung out the POGs who are cool guys to begin with and Wayne talked to Jerry of the POGs about Gabes total lack of guitar tuning ability even with a tuner, Gabes memory loss of The Remedials set at Denderahs last house party, the infamous New Years Eve show, Waynes drunken performances with Indirect and The Remedials headlining the upcoming Asbalt show. The Remedials behaved themselves and even got a free pog from the POGs if thats not clever marketing we dunno what is! The Remedials are stoked to play with these guys at Denderahs next house party as well as of course Denderah, The Weedies and The Remenants!

The Remedials will be headlining their first show at the Asbalt on Feb. 10^thwith punk bros. Raised by Apes and The Has Binz. Lets hope the Asbalt doesn't close down before then...

The Remedials Move Up The Charts

After attending the latest Vancouver Band Alliance Showcase at Charts weve decided to finally give a rundown of the events of that day as well as the previous one. The first showcase on Nov. 19^th included performances by: FMTA, Dreams of Treason, Willy B. Sober, Amish Warfare, LTG, The Julie Roman Project, The POGs, The Remedials and Denderah. Gabe of The Remedials showed up first so he could check out all the bands, Lionel of The Remedials showed up soon after since Gabe was denied off sales from The Legion and kept pestering him to show up with beer. All the bands (even The Remedials) had great performances especially FMTA whose singer ended up rolling on the Charts floor, since we jam there we know that you dont even wanna stand on that floor even with your shoes on. With The Remedials set to play around 4pm or so, we got a call around 12:30pm from Wayne of The Remedials who had already been hitting the Wisers. About an hour after that we got a call from his girl that Wayne was passed out in her moms car. After repeated calls to Wayne he finally woke up, answered the phone and staggered to Charts. The Remedials played their set to a packed room at Charts and the whole thing was filmed and can be seen on Episode 6 of A New Rock Reality.

The latest showcase on Jan. 7^thincluded: Amish Warfare, Marianne Baker, Hector, FMTA, the POGs, Keep It Secret, and Denderah. Since The Remedials didnt have to play they could sit back and have a few beers well maybe more than a few and enjoy the show and hang with the rest of the bands. After chatting with Art and Chad from Charts who are still convinced Gabe of The Remedials is the star of A New Rock Reality show. It was off to get a beer, help lug a new drum set upstairs and set up the sound and cameras.

Amish Warfare were on first and after their set was done asked Gabe of The Remedials to take some pictures of them for their press kit which theyre sending to EMI Canada at their request! After about 5 minutes of having to explain to him how to use a digital camera the pictures were done and Amish Warfare were off to put their press kit together. Fingers crossed those pictures worked out. Next up was an acoustic set by Marianne Baker, whose song Booty Call had all the boys thankful they were sitting down for her performance and all needed to take a cold shower after. She chatted about being an iTunes darling (her songs are showcased on the site), touring across the country and that she was ovulating. The dynamic duo of Hector was next, The Remedials were totally impressed with what they able to do with a Death From Above 1979 set up and an iPod and their songs were outta sight too! This also gave Gabe the idea of just having all The Remedials songs on an iPod and just lip-syncing for all our shows so we could just concentrate on drinking were still looking into this as an option. This seems like a great idea since after Hector finished Scott of The Weedies gave them and Marianne Baker a play-by-play of The Remedials infamous New Years Eve set. Although we did get props from Dreams of Treason, Amish Warfare, the POGS and Denderah about the show and to which we are like please dont encourage us! The next band was FMTA who did a rad job again this time around those guys never disappoint! Up next were the POGs who played a high-energy show as a three-piece! Gabe from The Remedials and Kwin from Denderah joined in on the chorus of The Ramones cover The Crusher. Be sure to check out the POGs this Thursday Jan. 12^that The Pic Pub in which Gabe will jump on stage and join em for The Crusher! After them was Keep It Secret a band who has one of the best drummers The Remedials have ever seen (except for of course Lionel) and they did a stellar job! Gabe was asked to help film their set for some strange reason. The last band of the night was Denderah we cant say enough good things about these guys (although they have plenty of dirt on The Remedials) since wed take a bullet for em! Kwin had to play an Ibanez guitar since he smashed the red Fender Mustang the night before. Scott of The Weedies was able to stop him from smashing it on New Years Eve but Gabe was too drunk to stop him at The Pub 340 show which he still regrets cuz its a beautiful guitar. They pulled out all stops and The Remedials are totally looking forward to Denderahs house party at the end of the month!

The Remedials Reminisce

Wow, what a year for a band whose own members thought had no future! Over that last year The Remedials have played The Piccadilly Pub (seen Moral Crux), The Mesa Luna (seen No Means No) and The Brickyard (R.I.P. seen DOA and Shonen Knife play) as well as other venues and house parties. The Remedials have been lucky enough to play these venues where we have seen our punk idols play and are totally grateful for the opportunity thanks to Dead Radio, Adam from black.skyline and Sean from SPM Music. Not content with just playing shows The Remedials recorded their first CD with Jesse Gander at The Hive. The feedback we have received on the recording have been amazing and for that we have to give props to Jesse! The Remedials continue to try and update our various sites all over the webernet, see if youre able to find them all! Weve even gone all corporate whore by selling shirts; look forward to stickers, temporary tattoos and autographed drumsticks. We hung out with a lot of rad bands (like Denderah who let us play their house party and another one possibly soon, we hung out with them at Shindig to see Fun 100 and RockN, The Weedies at BCIT and Jello Biafra and The Melvins at the C.C.C.) since joining The Vancouver Band Alliance. Even if we didnt get to play any shows the community thats started is outta sight and too punk rock to miss out on! Wed like to thank Scott Holman for letting us join the club and having more faith in us then ourselves. We wanna thank all the bands in the Alliance that have supported us and even stuck around for our now infamous New Years Eve show. More surprising is the fact that The Remedials have been on TV in the reality show A New Rock Reality which airs on Novus Channel 34; its creepy when people recognize you from seeing ya on TV. Not bad for a band that almost broke up three times in the last year!

So what up for 2006? Well, do we have a lot planned for everyone that has supported us last year (came to our shows, bought our merch and messaged us about our songs) but well have more about that soon enough! The Remedials will continue to write more songs and play more shows (unfortunately, the Vancouver scene has lost a couple venues recently The Brickyard and The Candy Bar luckily we played them both well kinda) either at clubs or house parties. The Vancouver scene will be going thru a lot of changes in the next year and the community of bands in the Alliance have committed to reviving the scene and playing shows anywhere they can, so theres a light at the end of that tunnel! So there ya have it The Remedials future is getting brighter everyday weve finally passed kindergarten and ready to move on to elementary school. Thanks to all the blog readers too with over 300?! views it seems like someones reading this crap, well be sure to keep ya updated with all things remedial!

Going Down On The Clown With The Remedials

The Remedials have been known to do a lot of stupid things especially if they have already been drinking. One of a plethora of stupid things Lionel and Gabe of The Remedials do is frequent a fast food joint with a clown mascot. This always occurs after downing a few chemically aged beers at The Ivanhoe when going home after a jam. There hasnt been an incident with Lionel so far but with Wayne its a different story...

After jamming Wayne, Gabe and Shannon are on the Skytrain heading home from Charts. Were gonna have to skip what happened on the train to protect the innocent. We jump off at Stadium Station and Wayne suggests we deal some meal, so were off to the closest fast food joint. While there Shannon gotta use the bathroom so while in line Wayne kindly asks the one of the managers if he could score the key. The manager says he cant since after a certain time its closed to the public. So we get our order (we're not sure exactly what Wayne ordered but it did have pickles) and scope out a seat. A kind girl overheard our dilemma and told us to talk to the other manager who is a lot nicer and let her and all her friends use the bathroom. Not only did she get the guy out from behind the counter when she needed the bathroom but this gave Wayne the opportunity to talk to the him to open the door for Shannon. So now with Shannon relieved and Gabe as well that there hasnt been an incident so far, The Remedials are on cruise-control for a semi-uneventful evening or so Gabe thought but Wayne had other plans...

So how does Wayne show his gratitude to the kind girl who did his girl a solid? He walks over to her and her friends table and goes "Don't be offended by this but..." He then proceeds to blow outta his left nostril half a pickle on to their table. The last thing Gabe can remember before he hit the ground from laughing so hard was the traumatized face of this girl and her friends! This girl totally did the Home Alone thing and had her hands to her face. They all screamed out in unison "That's disgusting!" Needless to say they left shortly after that when her big boyfriend returned to get them. Not content with just one customer he decides to try it out with the two guys sitting across from us. Wayne walks over and asks: "What do you think if I did this?" The guy responds: "That would be disgusting, but kinda funny!" Wrong answer dude, so Wayne lets fly and the guys did find it rather amusing since he did at least warn them. Wayne proud of what hes done goes to Gabe "Well, what did you think of that?" to which he responds, "Ya shoulda asked them if they wanted fries with that!"

Stay tuned for more late breaking news, which well tell ya about later! Gabe's B-Day is this weekend and he and the gang are sure to get into more way more trouble!

The Remedials Hit The Road

Gabe from The Remedials checked out the Shindig Finals at the Railway Club after getting on the guest list to see Fun 100 for the second time. While there he got to hang out with cool guys in The Ingredients (VBA band) who filmed an interview for “A New Rock Reality”. Unfortunately, there was more footage required to finish the latest episode…

The next night Gabe filmed a promo to pimp the next VBA show in which The Remedials will be playing! Having nothing to else to do that night he went on the road with Scott of The Weedies to get more footage for “A New Rock Reality”. After picking up Kristin (a promising sound engineering student and musician) who’s interested in helping out the VBA it was off to Superior Skate and Tattoos on “The Drive” to interview the legendary Goonie! We got a tour of the shop hung out with the resident ink slinger Dennis (Dog Eat Dogma and The Inebriators) and his rottweiler and got some great footage (which Gabe filmed, hey this gig paid more than anything he’s done with The Remedials) of Scott skateboarding and an interview with The Goon. While at the shop Gabe talked with Goonie about old school skate decks while reminiscing about his Powell Peralta Caballero and vintage toys. During the interview Scott and Goonie dropped some info on what they have planned for the Dec. 21^st show, which if we weren’t already gonna be there, were really gonna be there now! Not only does Superior do skateboards and tattoos Goonie mentioned but they’ll also do piercings soon to which Gabe contemplated on getting a Prince Albert. While on the way out Goonie had to pry the Hosoi Hammerhead deck from Gabe who just couldn’t let it go when checking it out.

Once that was done it’s off to Skookum’s rehearsal space to film an interview and get footage of them playing. The guys in Skookum are totally rad and did a great cover of a certain “Team America” theme song with a Canadian spin and some cool hockey tunes. The rehearsal space could use some work or maybe some more heaters but the plastic sheets on the windows kinda helped keep the cold out!

With the night still young it was off to The Candy Bar, which will host a lot of VBA shows in the future. We got a brief tour of the place that includes a restaurant in front, which is right outta the 50’s complete with booths and swivel chairs at the bar. The stage in the back is the best though, Gabe instantly dug it cause it’s so punk rock and now he can’t wait to play! We hung out there for a while had a few beers, dropped Kristin off and headed to The Buffalo Club on Granville.

Scott had to grab some promo for the Dec. 21^st show from Sean of SPM Music who got us into the show for free! We got to see and hang out with the girls of Cherrybomb (who will soon be changing their name) totally checked out Nikki Hurst but booked before Suzi Rawn (this girl is really short) from Canadian Idol hit that stage. At the end of the day Scott had more that enough footage to complete Episode 6 of “A New Rock Reality” and Gabe got really drunk so it worked out well for everyone. Whoa, what a long night and Gabe still had free tickets to “The Like” (whoever they are) in his back pocket!

Check out the latest episode of “A New Rock Reality” in which The Remedials have two songs (Train Hoppin’ and Crabs) showcased! These were filmed during the stellar VBA showcase at Charts.

The Remedials Get Busted

We figured we should jam at least once more before we finish recording on the 23^rd, so we booked to jam on Monday from 6pm to 8pm. Gabe arrived at Charts on time and chatted with Art who was totally impressed with the VBA showcase on Saturday. Even more so that things didn’t get outta hand considering the place was jam-packed! He even got to see the “A New Rock Reality” featuring The Remedials and thought that was rad. Lionel arrived late and since he was driving decided not to drink even though Gabe kept on dissing him about it. Wayne forgot his bass at his girl’s mom’s place and was gonna arrive even later. So Lionel and Gabe proceeded to jam as a two-piece, which they have done on plenty of occasions. If you know anything about Wayne he is notorious for not showing up to jam or walking out of jams for no reason or we just won’t hear from him for a few days. It was almost at the point were we figured we might as well do The White Stripes thing. With an hour left to jam Wayne finally calls and says he ain’t gonna make it, so we finish jamming Gabe downs his beer and were ready to jet. Lionel decides to drop Gabe off at Main and Broadway and then he’s gotta hop the bus the rest of the way home. While driving down Kingsway there’s a crazy intersection, which crosses on to 12^th Ave. but we needed to be on Main. So Lionel pulls what we soon found out to be a U-turn on to Main Street. We figured we would totally get away with it since Vancouver has been covered with so much fog it’s like something right outta a horror movie! But let me tell ya the red and blue-flashing lights can be seen even thru the thickest fog. So we pull over and of course the cop pulls some attitude with Lionel who proceeds to talk back to the point were Gabe's thinking the bus doesn’t seem so bad anymore. The cop checks Lionel’s driving record and gives him a hard time about it (probably because Lionel said it was clean) were not sure what the previous charges were but we suspect GTA. For some reason Lionel dodges that bullet and the cop gives him a warning and let’s us go! Lionel has a change of heart and decides to give Gabe a ride all the way home. Aside from almost getting hit by a bus after getting pulled over it was a happy ending for The Remedials!

Look forward to the next blog on the Vancouver Band Alliance showcase at Charts! It happened before these events but this was too cool not to write about first!

Crashing The Schmusic BC Party With The Remedials

After very little deliberation it was decided that we had to check out the Music BC Party at the Media Club once we found out that 1) It’s free admission and 2) Free drinks from Sleeman’s and Jagermeister! Hell, at that price even The Remedials can afford that! After arriving on the scene dressed to the 9’s so security wouldn’t throw us out. Gabe from The Remedials and his partner in crime Scott from The Weedies infiltrated The Media Club with the agenda of pimping the Vancouver Band Alliance. After a few Honey Brown’s and even more shots of Jag, Gabe and Scott worked the crowd by handing out CDs with VBA bands and handbills of the next VBA show. After hanging out with a lot of music industry people and LTG a new member to the VBA, it was time for trivia and drawing of prizes! Neither Gabe or Scott entered in the draw for studio time or a video press kit since they were both too loaded to do so, but Gabe did win a stack of CDs (too bad none of them were good) when he correctly answered the trivia question: “Which band contains members from The Hanson Brothers?” and to which the correct answer is of course “No Means No”. Gabe got props from the MC when he said: “Cool, someone who know his punk rock!” Ya better believe it Bub! On the way out we ran into to people who kept hearing about the Band Alliance while at the bash, did we accomplish what we set out to do? I think so; our work here was finished. Tune in tomorrow for the next chapter in the drunken adventures of Gabe as he stumbles to The Brickyard after the Music BC Bash…

The Remedials Wrap Their Head Around Jenga

The latest episode of “A New Rock Reality” will feature the song Marilyn Monroe by The Remedials put to video of some gnarly surf footage and is showcased at the end of Episode 4. If that wasn’t cool enough there will a segment were Gabe of The Remedials takes on Scott from The Weedies/Cranstons, Ramsey from The Cranstons and Willy from Willy B. Sober in a game of full contact Jenga! Who will win this battle of epic proportions? How high will the tower go? Who will be the clown who topples the whole thing? Does Gabe even know how to play the damn game? Tune into Novus Channel 34 to witness all the suspenseful, tension filled action as it unfolds!

The Remedials Get Their 15 Minutes Of Fame

The first episode of “A New Rock Reality” featured clips of an interview with Gabe in which he talks about the band he’s in and how he stumbled upon the Vancouver Band Alliance. We figured that was more than enough of what anybody needed to see of The Remedials but…

In the second episode we are showcased and you’ll finally get to see The Remedials in action! While jamming at the prestigious Charts Rehearsal Studio in lovely Burnaby the dynamic duo of Scott Holman and Robin dropped by to film us play a couple of songs (Marilyn Monroe and Possessed are shown) and interview the whole band together! Thanks to some clever editing and a whole lotta special effects The Remedials don’t come off as the complete jerks they are! Check it out if your able to on Novus Channel 34! Cause if we had a TV that’s the only show we’d wanna check out!

Recording With The Remedials

The moment of truth for The Remedials!

Lionel and Gabe showed up late to the studio after taking the wrong turn off on the highway (that’s what happens when ya give Gabe the directions to relay) and being stuck in rush hour traffic. Wayne arrived even later since he was the only one who couldn’t take the day off and being the good guy he isn’t he didn’t even call in sick to work which if you know Wayne is truly shocking!

After 2 hours of setup and having to get Wayne from the SkyTrain station The Remedials were ready rock and record. We were all setup in one room together and jammed out a few tunes to get the levels right and once Jesse said: “Were rollin’!” the rest is history.

Gabe played a rented Gibson SG after losing his previous guitar (don’t ask) and thru a Marshall JCM 800, which he has lugged around since 95 and weighs as much as a dead body and if you ever had to drag one around you know what I mean. He also stayed up all night and day after drinking enough Red Bull to stun a rhino and a combination of Sleemans Honey Brown and water while doing the vocal tracks at 2 o’clock in the morning.

Wayne played his Ibanez bass, which I think he got for free or at a pawnshop I know there’s a story behind it but I can’t remember it. Since he headed to the studio after work he used the Traynor bass rig at the studio. After an hour of punching in his bass tracks in the sound room, he did the vocals and background vocals after Gabe when he ran outta beer. All it took was a couple shots of Jack Daniels and he was able to nail all the vocals in one take!

Lionel played the Frankenstein drum set at the studio, which was held together with a lot of duct tape. Jesse mentioned he was easy to record since he plays the drums like Animal from The Muppet Show and pounded em’ like Bamm-Bamm from The Flintstones. After he was done he had more than enough time to chill out and point and laugh at both Wayne and Gabe while they were recording vocals which he proceeded to do.

The tracks that are up right now haven’t been mastered and some don’t have background vocals so we’ll be back in the studio on November 23^rd to finish up the vocals and master the whole thing. So what’s next you ask (we’ll you probably didn’t but I’ll tell ya anyway) were gonna do up a CD which isn’t really full-length cause the 11 songs we recorded clock in at a total of 19 minutes and 33 seconds. How cool is that!

So that’s The Remedials first ever recording experience! It was rad, fun and outta sight! The Remedials would like to thank Jesse Gander of The Hive for doing a stellar job in getting us recorded and sounding good even un-mastered we totally appreciated all his input and professionalism and the fact that he’s just a cool guy to begin with!

If ya read our first blog on recording we mentioned that we could probably record 10 songs in a day session and we ended up doing 11 songs!

Ass Seen On T.V.

The Remedials and Reality T.V. a match made in heaven? More like hell!

Since joining the Vancouver Band Alliance we figured showing up to meetings, playing and going to shows would be all that’s expected of us but we got more than what we bargained for. Now there’s a reality show based on the trials and tribulations of the band alliance called “A New Rock Reality” on a new cable network (Channel 34 NVTV) airing right now. Luckily, most of you won’t be able to check it out and that’s a good thing cause The Remedials all have faces for radio! As well Wayne on television is just a bad idea, Lionel’s in the witness protection program and can’t be shown on camera and Gabe owes people money who break legs and would rather not let em’ know he’s in Vancouver. If you are unfortunate enough to check out the first episode (after picking yourself off the ground from laughing so hard) let us know what ya think. One of us actually made it on to that episode…thanks to The Remedials reality television has officially hit an all time low!

The Remedials Recording? You Gotta Be Kiddin' Me!

Against our better judgement The Remedials have decided to record a demo. Were gonna shoot for 4 songs but since our songs are like only 2 minutes long we could probably do about 10 in a day session. The date this is going down is October 24^th at The Hive studios with the legendary Jesse Gander! If there’s anyone who could polish a turd (that is our music) were gonna put our lunch money on this guy! So be warned, be scared and run for the hills cause The Remedials are aiming high to lower the bar for punk rock!
